This is why I hate Hitec... This servo has done this since I took it out of the box, the ebay seller said to send it to Hitec and Hitec said to stick it up someplace warm. grrr!

It's being powered by a 6 cell 2000mah Sanyo nicd pack (No I don't want poop about nicad. I'm old, leave me to my vintage junk lol) This pack is putting out 8 volts at idle and 7.5-7.75v under full load.


I'm going to do the servo relocation sometime in the near future, but this servo should have enough ass to move these wheels. And since hitec won't stand behind their products, I'm out another 50 bux. Never again.
 
If you hook up nicad's to your camera it will be easier to operate haha. Looks like you got a bum deal on that servo..poop my stock servo has given me a year of service and still going" knock on wood"
 
That is what my S900S did. It is a rebadged Savox. Not being argumentative, I've just never had the issues you have. You recommended a $120 Savox but installed a $50 Hitec. That's not apples to apples. The 805 is the entry level servo.

DDM would have replaced it. I try to avoid fleabay.

The stockers are not as bad as people say. If you get the EPA right, you will get a lot more service out of them. The throttle servo is another story. It can't handle the pressure from the brakes.
 
The stockers may not be the fastest, but neither am I anymore!! lol. I am still running the steering servo that came with the xb i bought from Rob 2+ years ago. never pulled it apart- Washed the darned car off with a garden hose dozens of times- Yes, it does have a little play in the gears- it should - with the wrecks the car has seen- I have several spares i have aquired tru the good folks on this site- I have pulled them completely apart- cleaned them up and reassembled them- ready to be used if the abused one in the xb fails.- All the gears in the redcat steering servos i have-- metal. Brass-bronze? Frankly, The gears in the cat servos and the casse itself are better looking than the 5755-s i have. 1st gear in the 5755 is nylon. it WILL fail eventually.
 
Servos are easy to work on. There is a control pot inside the servos that should be cleaned. The servo motor uses the servo case as a heat sink, I use teflon transistor heat sink grease - on the outside of the servo motor case- this fills in the air gaps- and transfers more heat off the motor onto the servo case.- The trick to reassembling the rubber o-rings on the servo case- assemble the servocase - do not completely tighten the case screws- leave just enough gap so you can slide the o-rings over the outside of the cases- then gently put them in place- then fully tighten the case screws.

Either the transmissions gears are out of time- binding on the control pot-or the control pot is failing. just saying----

Maybe I should go back to the stock then I still have a new one in the package...

I recommended the 120 Savox because I have one in my Fg M/T and it's a great servo. I know it's not in the same price range as the 805, but he asked for a recommendation. I cannot recommend anything from hitec.

In my experience Hitec servos have been lousy. When they work, they work well, but I've had 12 hitecs fail on me... That's not a very good result.

I prefer Airtronics, but I don't believe they make a 1/4 scale yet.

while on the subject of the stock servos i've got to add that although i had an early failure if i would have taken the time to look the m/t over better before running it i would have realized that all the linkages involved in the steering of the truck had been over tightened from the factory putting an extra ordinary load on the servos. if i would corrected this off the get go i believe i might still be running the stock servos as i am in the d/r. on a different note i've replaced s/b servos in both very early on. hitec in all no problems since.
 
I've had 2 5755's in my MT for 2+ years and still banging the tires around real fast and strong...

when I got my used XBe in the late spring last year, I put another in it.

Have run it about a dozen times and early winter (last run) it started moving incredibly slow.

Sent it back to HiTec with their warranty form (2 years with receipt!)

and it was fixed and sent back no problems. only cost $3.80 shipping!
 
I sent in 6 servos at one time and they didn't fix any of them, they just tried to sell me new ones. The 5745 and 5755tg's are the main servos that I've killed. I never had a problem with my first 805 plastic gear. That's the reason I bought the 805mg.

I have a pair of 5745 still trudging along in my FG Marder for the past 2 years, but that buggy spends more time on the shelf than in the dirt.

Here's another vid of a 5745 that's slow and worthless. The vids a few years old, but it still shows my luck with Hitec.

What TX do you use? Does it have a high speed vs normal servo setting? On my 4PKS if it is set to high speed, an analog servo like the 645 will act like it can't move. It becomes lethargic. When the TX is set to normal it is fine. No on all Hitecs newer digital servos like the 5685 and 5765 I can set the TX in either mode and they perform the same.
 
Glad you posted this. If a Hitec can't pull your steering arms on 8 volts, you're getting ripped off. Now I know what brand to stay away from. ;) Good thing you've got replacements though.

I'm just running an old janky Spek DX3. The controller in the last vid (Fg M/T) I was using my Airtronics Caliber 3ps (75mhz FM from 1992) That vid was taken back in 07.

Are you thinking that maybe my radio could be the culprit? Although the symptoms were the same when I was running the stock black and purple radio.
 
Then no, if the stock radio does it also. It is not sophisticated enough to do that. The 4PKS has a setting, and it is the default, for Futabas FAST digital servos. The analog, as well as, some other brands digital servos can not be ran on this setting. However, it is always good to try the radios different servo settings, if it is so equiped.
 
Sure that makes sense to me.

I plan to upgrade to the Airtronics MT-4, I've like the looks of it since it first came out. My favorite was my Airtronics MX-3, that was a great radio. The old Caliber 3ps has been with me since I was racing a JrX-2 and a gold pan RC-10. I still have it, well I have 2 of them. I also have a Futaba Magnum PCM from 1990.

And I control the Clodbuster with a Magnum Jr from 1989 to complete the vintage look.

I think I have about 15 radios, but unfortunately that crusty spectrum is the "most advanced" lol. uugh.
