Junk servo??

you say it worked without the horn, I've noticed that some horns bottom out on the case when you tighten them up virtually locking it up so if it was rubbing on the case it could have buggered it.
if you're running one steering servo then the Digi 4 is king, actual initial torque is 383ozin with 205ozin holding , the 5745's holding will be in the 160ozin range.
I run dual 5745's in my rampage MT and they're plenty powerful and i ran a single digi4 in my fgbaja which again was more than enough. The digi4 is going in my rampage TT for now til I dual it with 5745's.
For the FGMT I'd think about putting in dual 5745's for way better steering than just the single

Can you let us know where these specs are found? I can never find more specs than the Hitec/Multiplex websites and then only show the 249 and 254 spec.

For the past 3 years the single 5745 has been great!! So I am happy with it. You made a good point, about the horn being too tight... Unfortunately that's not the problem, I can stop the servo with just my fingertips by grabbing the "output shaft"... (the bud of the servo)

The steering linkage is loose and easy to move by hand..

Just for fun, I held the 645 in my hand, while hooked to the steering linkage and it swung the front tires just fine...

Trip..

Sounds to me like you have a bum servo motor. Probably bad brushes. They will explain at Hitec what was wrong. Would be interesting to see what it is. You would think with the loss of power it would heat up or burn out?

Same.. All I can find is the pdf from Hitec. Click HERE.

I think it says hold of 224.97oz.in not 160?

There are conflicting torque figures for the digi 4 and it's been discussed on most largescale forums with the same results. ddm, tower, fg supply etc quote 205ozin at 6v, multiplex usa say 254 and robotic sites and others that have been listed in other threads state 24.8kg which = 383ozin.
Mutiplex is giving holding, I quoted the wrong one, (don't know where ddm and the others get their figures from) and 25kg ininitial
browse in eu stores and they all give 25kg. multiplex are german they figure the holding torque is the point at which to measure torquehttp://www.active-robots.com/products/motorsandwheels/multiplex-servomotors.shtml

The assumption i made for the 5745 was based on 383 holding at 250ish so 249 would lose at a similar percent so would be 164.

I have both and side by side the rhino has way more power than the hitec

I would quote the manufactures specs. If they can't get it right then all the others are wrong.

Rhino: Rhino Digi 4
Hitec: Hitec 5745MG

According to the two manufactures they are about the same.:)

if you do that the hitec looks as strong as the digi4 and i can tell you right now the 5745 is nowhere near the power of the digi4, if you email multiplex in germany they will tell you what i have. 25kg initial torque 18kg holding.

This has been hashed out many different times in various threads on different forums usually with the same results, the digi4 is 25kg...run them side by side and you'll see what i'm talking about.

Hitec/Multiplex Rhino... 205.3oz Torque and 383oz holding power...
Hitec 5745mg 249.96oz torque...

Taken right from the damn book!!!

Look at the pic it is Hitec's 2007 product catalog...

What kind of Soda do you prefer. Soda Pop, Oat soda or Barley pop? :D

Got the new servo in and hooked up my Voltwatch (clone) It sure is nice to have my baby steering again! :celebrate:

I messed around with linkage settings for the crappy 645 throttle servo and I have some brakes now... Sort of.. It defiantly isn't my 5955 that's for sure
