hi guys, the kill switch kills the engine when you lose signal, switch it off with the 3rd channel and if you completely loss battery power. now... its really neccesary to have a third channel radio system? afterall im only after the loss of signal and loss of power.

In that case if its just a loss of signal your failsafe will kick in(you do have one right?) If your battery loses connection/fails then just fit a relay to your engine off button and your battery pack on a normally open circuit. So as soon as your battery is connected the relay will open thus making the circuit dormant but on loss of power the relay will close activating the engine stop button.

well my receiver has a built-in failsafe and it does work if i turn the transmitter off but if i turn the receivers battery off while on full throttle it stays on full throttle and that scared me so i should make sure that my battery is fully charge.

now about the relay, thats a good idea but its quite complicated for me. the guy on ebay selling the kill switch told me this:

"If the unit is receiving a signal from channel 1 or 2 then the activation of steering or brake will turn the device through the on/off phase. This is why it needs to be on the third channel to use the radio to activate the kill. However it may be possible to use it in isolation on the pwer supply only.I will run some tests and let you know."

The only reason for a third channel operation is if you want to stop the motor by remote for any reason, the picco switch you refare to can operate on the function of a two channel as well as a three but will n ot have the ability to remotely kill the engine but will kill on loss of voltage.
If you don't understand relays they really are very simple electrically operated switches, just GOOGLE relays and it will help you to understand them. You might just save yourself £30 !
Good luck

I think he needs to program his reciever so his fail safe works propley....

Denz, can you clarify if you want a unit/switch to kill the engine in case of loss of electric???I.E,if your battery dis-connects or wire snaps so there is no power to the servos when you are at WOT or idle.

Yes he does voo....

I was just telling him he could program the reciever for the failsafe....

my receivers failsafe it already programmed to activate the brake incase of signal loss but what i was referring to is the "complete loss of power to the receiver" if i turn off my receivers power whilst on full throttle the carb stays on full throttle and thats what im avoiding. ive read that the kill switch will kill the engine incase of complete loss of power. now if thats the case i was thinking that the third channel is irrelevant because you don't have any power to the receiver anymore so killing the eninge by switching the third channel off will not activate the kill switch becuase "theres no more power source". im not after killing the engine remotely i just want my engine to die incase i completely loss power to my receiver.

im so paranoid about this because i had a runner 2 months ago, my baja 5b went running FULL speed it almost hit and expensive car, almost hit a person and then slap BANG on a fence. the front left tyre was found 10 meters away from the crash site and the whole front end was kissing the rollcage. i don't mind the car being totaled but im worried about hurting someone or damaging expensive properties.

im going to try the "relay option" it think its a good idea, but i still prefer the kill switch option.

thanks guy for all your replies

Denz,
One more option that I've seen work well is putting a spring on the carb arm itself. That way if you really have complete loss of power, the spring will activate no matter what. You just want to make sure to get a spring that has enough tension to close the carb, but not too much that it puts strain on the throttle servo. I used to do this to my nitro cars like 15 years ago and it always did well!!

yeah, i know this trick, a nice chap from our bashing site taugh me this trick, but he only told me this after I crash my 5B that day. lol!! it does work on my 5b but the servo of the MCD are much bigger than the HPI's and i cant find a strong enough spring at the moment. thank you for reminding me.

Thought that what you was talking about. It will cost you a couple of quid and is a piece of piss to do,saving you money to spend on your truck.
