Hmmm, heres one for you fellas.I was told the ORIGINAL Baja was made by KM and HPI ripped it off! With there vast money resources they advertised it and put it on the market with them being a 'branded' name! so people thought they owned the copy right.

don't dive on me here HPI owners, its just what I have been told.
J.

I heard that too Voo. don't know how much truth is in it tho??

I heard that too Voo. don't know how much truth is in it tho??
I have also heard that....

Theres two people who have heard this.I have been researching into this and apparently its true!
But the HPI guys will swear black and blue that HPI have concocted this sand rail. I cannot confirm this but what I have read and been told (by hardcore HPI Baja owners) this is a true statement.
I for one am a true HPI 10th scale (tourers...carbon,titanium,alloy) driver, with all the original HPI parts and after market parts(ask Jacko,he's seen them) and would never buy shite components for my habit.
Think about it,someone comes up with a poop hot design but havn't the resources to develope it and then a big(like Microsoft...Bill didnt invent WINDOWS,it was a by product ,like PETROL/GAS.) firm has the marketing skills to push the design and have enough cash to fight with lawyers, who's going to win????
Just what I have heard.

Oh,before I finish, who out there wears jeans? can you put up who does and who dosent.
Thanks.
J.

New to all this LS stuff, but after looking around and seeing many of the clones, and after seeing the HPI it does make sense. Use cheap labor and an existing but not well marketed design, buy a ton of units from said manufacturer and set up your own packaging and electronics to bundle as an RTR. Once the interest peaks claim everything else is a cheapo knockoff and claim copyright infringement and sue for royalties from all the "copycat" manufacturers. Thats big coporate business at it's best fellas.

And yes I wear jeans, I also put them one leg at a time. And I was born at night, but not last night.

I know its an old thread but who wears Levi Strauss?? They are the original jeans and everything else is copies.Jacob Davis, Calvin Rogers, and Levi Strauss are the founders.I doubt 10% of the worlds population who wears jeans wear the originals. So we are all guilty of buying something thats cloned.

Only thing that pissed me off about mine so far is the casting on the crank case is bad and It didnt want to accept a enclosed clutch carrier without some decent modification to the inside of the housing via file...was f@#%^^ annoying.

Aside from that Radio and servos blow and the boots are crappy rubber and my KSRC-002 should have an alloy diff but it's actually plastic I find out..although you can replace all this with better than stock stuff and be far below a retail hpi still.

I've had no issues with mine as to date apart from the rubbish radio gear.
It has done me proud and loved it up until last week when i swapped it for an FSX Punisher(hmm ,sounds kinky) because the course we now run on accepts 4x4's better than RWD.

Yea it's not that big of a deal, I was just mad when I had to file the inner lip of the case a bunch to fit my $$$ DDM enclosed clutch carrier :I

Nothing wrong with Km's m8, Most HPI owners will tell you there crap only because there jelous that they got ripped with the price of there HPI... HPI owners say KM is not very reliable well iv seen alot of ppl have problems with HPI too.... So i think both names are gr8 but both have there good n bad points

Im a proud km owner

Don't let the usual troll make your oppinion for you................................., do your research and you will see. Just remember not all KM models are equal. Some are still selling the shoddy versions with plastic diffs and other inferior parts. Most new ones are upgraded from the factory with alum diffs, etc. And the actual tx/rx is actually pretty dang good for what you get. The servos are hit and miss, some work great, some give out almost immediatly.

mine come with alloy diff, and other metal parts from factory that are still plastic on hpi's. only issue i have had with mine was that pullstarter, its crap, and jams and bends the washer, so i found a starter with the collar and that solved the issue.

some say the motors are crap, but mines been running with out issues.

my hpi came with alloy diff but then again i have the ss and built it ;) i will tell you i have been jumped on repeatedly for my comments abount my name brand hpi and it really ticks me off because the people whining do not have my baja adn don't know what kinds of bs it has caused me however a couple people do know because they have been around to see posts or have heard me comment on a failure every time it happens. all manufacturers have a failure rate of some sort regardless, however although quite small the percentage when you are one of the unfortunate to get a lemon no one will understand and just bash you for your comments.

best advice one can offer is do some internet research and i'm sorry to say that due to the nature of people it is best to ask those whom actually own the product and then way those with failures against those that don't and draw your own conclusion. for example i was one of the unfortunate statistics that got a lemon with a genuine hpi however i can justify what i paid on it because of hpi's support. i have spent a buttload of cash on my baja replacing parts but when i replace a part i by aftermarket and replace the stock.

on the first i am ordering some extended arms, extended cvd's some rezzies and a couple other parts and if all goes well my baja will be hopped up and blinged like i want it on the first of july with teh exception of an HBZ front bumper which is proving problematic, one vendor told me that HBZ doesn't make a part till its ordered now which is stupid. so basically you order the hbz chrome front bumper, pay for it, then the dealer orders it, and then you have to wait for hbz to make it, send it to teh dealer, tehn the dealer send it to you

(got off subject LOL) anyway, just do some research and ask persons who own them and way the pros and cons and figure the statistics, in my case i am apparently in the small minority with my genuine and its high failure rate :D

Ok so I have been building my KM 002 up for a few weeks now, hasnt been run out of the garage but I have been through the entire thing beefing it up so let me just tell you what I've personally seen as a KM owner.

KM PROBLEMS:

Electronics:
1. Stock servos and radios are crap, sometimes you'll get a set of servos that last a bit longer though.
2. Mounting After market steerings servos such as the Hitec HS-xxx or xxxx-MG is a headache since the mounts are different, better off just getting the HPI battery box and mount of eBay.

Drive Train:
1. Differential internals are different so if you plan on upgrading you need to buy a whole new diff from HPI or w.e. brand you like. The KM drive cups have a smaller O.D. so they don't fit HPI's diff inner bearings I.D.
2. Dog bone rubber cups are junk and rip super easily if they arnt already by the time you receive the truck.
3. Wheel bead locks arnt ok but I had about 6 of the allen screws holding them on strip out for no apparent reason, they came messed up anyways.
4. Tire compound is soft and wont last long.

Engine:
1. Bought a DDM enclosed clutch and I ended up having to run the I.D. of the crank case out a bit to get it to seat nicely all the way down.
2. PULL START IS A ABSOLUTE POS literally the 8th time I pulled it it sheered from the engine as in the plastic housing just ripped off from around the screws. Pissed me off.

I do have to say though, I have replaced all these with aftermarket pars that are quite a bit better than HPI's stock parts and Im still under the cost of a new Baja so I think Im still ahead of the game. If you want a KM you should buy it knowing that you will still be paying HPI money in the end but you will have a car with a lot nicer after market parts for about the same price.

So far the engine sounds really nice, starts well and has had no problems.

i got a extra radio box off ebay and mouinted the pa mount to it, put in the 5755 and 7955 servos and installed the new radios Rx, a 4pks.

once i had all that ready, i just popped out the old box, swapped the batt into new one, connected up the servo arms, pinned in place the housing and set the throws, easy as that.

you can getcha a radio box off ebay pretty cheap mine run me 5 bucks.
