I read a thread about a couple of guys having runaways with KMs, and got me worried.

Is this a common thing? How many has it happened to?

I don't really want to have to spend yet more money changing to another radio setup

runaways are not got ive had one it got stuck flat out then went into my mates vaxhaul was very costly and could have been much worse now i run a killswitch this was on a fg with brand new radio servos ect

It happens to all Large Scales eventually. Get a Killer-RC kill switch and save some greif.

I'm getting more scared the more I read lol

i think its just gonna be the crap radio in your KM that you will have

trouble with..........not sure if the servos are dodgy:w00t::w00t:

don't be scared it will take a bit of getting use to there big heavy beasts but there so much fun they handle better than the small cars no more crap fuel real petrol cheaper longer run times im gutted i didnt get one ten years ago instead of playing with nitro ones ive had mine over a year and a half now its use every chance i get

Yeah theres so many advantages, I was getting sick of being crouched down at the nitro giving it TLC every 10 mins, not to mention fuelling all the time. Saying that the Picco I have in my trophy has been brilliant.

The 45 min run times are such a change  2 of my mates have genuine Bajas so it will be good fun bashing with them

yeah its good when theres a few of them together also if youre worried about the radio then get a new one asap theres some realy good 2.4ghz set availble now and not badly priced if you get a 3 channel one you can have a kill switch on the 3rd channel you should be able to get both radio and killswitch for £100 then you wont even think about runaways i don't

Rory, the need for a killswitch has absolutely nothing to do with the quality or otherwise of the radio! The WHOLE benefit of a killswitch is that it will STOP runaways no matter what happens, to the transmitter, receiver, battery, throttle linkage etc etc. It will directly stop the spark plug working, which will stop the motor.

There is no reason at all to change your radio or any other part of your car, just fit a killswitch before you run your car again.

i guess you never had a km then .........:lol:

voo,s runaway was caused by a dodgy servo not his radio, the throttle brake servo,s on the k,m are crud, i,d say change it as soon as you can don,t wait for it stick or burn out.

my runaway at Deeside was caused by the screw coming out of the servo horn and the throttle jammed wide open. FG + massive rock = serious damage :crying: A kill switch would not have worked on this 1 cos the engine wouldnt even kill with the button on the engine. Pete very kindly burnt his hands on the exhausts to kill the engine

I never had a Kill Switch on my Baja and only ever heard of people having runaways, getting the MCD I asked about a Kill Switch as I was looking at bashing and racing and was told no one runs a kill switch on the track. One of the issues with the Baja is that the throttle linkage runs very close to the engine and tank and the theory was that when bashing just a small stone/piece of debris could lodge itself between the linkage/wire and the engine/tank and cause the servo to fail. Looking at the MCD models they run a fairly tightly enclosed internals with the pan and body overlapping and have plenty of room for linkages etc. so I am running without..... I may regret this but.

On the race track only a few run with an on/off switch as this can jolt and switch things off.

i,ve seen two ruaways our kids brand new sq hummer and voo,s km both not nice and costly, i think they should be fitted as standard , its mad k,m like to put a lot of alloy upgrades on there top end 2.0 and 3.0 buggys but no kill switch

Don't forget, a KILL SWITCH will cut the ignition, but if you're going full bore, there's a LOT of momentum, and you could still travel a LONG WAY before you stop.
You also need a FAIL SAFE. Sometimes, this is built into the radio gear, as with Spektrum - you can set how much brake, or the default 'failed' setting - normally half to 2/3 brake.
With the 2 combined - provided your servo screw doesn't come out, as mentioned earlier - sorry for that one m8 - you're laughing !!! (HOPEFULLY !!!)

I had a runaway as Paul said,It was down to a dodgy servo and radio.Do yourself a favour and and get a killswitch........It just so happens I have a spare for sale.

I laughed mate :lol: It stood up to the test well. The only damage that I couldnt straighten :hammer: was a broken front upright that was on its last legs anyway & a couple of sheared screws. Cost me about a tenner to fix :D
I was verrrrrry lucky
