hows the going people, said id join this as it is a very knolagable place to be:)
any way little info about me,im 29 a builder from limerick ireland republic and have had model cars and fg for years prob 10 plus, recently got in to it again and upgraded my monster beetle pro to full alloy(pics soon) jetpro pipe etc.
i also know everything possibly to know about the beetle if any need some help id be more than delighted to try and help.
for now tho iv got one problem.my layshaft doesn't fit the bearings easily when putting back on the car,i recently fitted a 29cc bling billet head cy engine, alloy mounts and just cant understand this, all parts new, layshaft, gearplate, alloy etc
any help apricated

Mine was like that too, you might have to take a small file to the lay shaft, the set screw that holds the spur gear on kinda squishes the shaft destorting it and it doesn't fit in the bearing very well. That is my expwrience if it is that far out you might just have the incorrect bearing.

I would say what Clubin says but it is strange that they are new and wont fit. If you ever tightened the grub to it then thats it. If not check the bearing size? If its just tight and you can fit it thats not bad at least its not loose and the shaft spins inside the bearing.:)

layshaft hell "yeah" haha

thanks lads
cant believe the amount of help im getting on this already, sound bunch of lads ye are.
anyway,i converted the beetle to all alloy from hobbytec germany"great service and prices by the way" engine and all the alloy and jetpro pipe"strange fitment by the way too, causes stress on engine gaskets by warping head,"oil leaks"
anyway whole lot cost aprox 1500euro including rear disc brake convertion, opting for hydrolic next, thats where my issue lies all were new ,layshaft, bearings, gearplate, pinions, bearings were correct fit by the way,but when shoving on the gearplate with layshaft and spur already attached it does not line up with the inside bearing "on engine mount where small diff driver pinion lies,so confusing, and unbelivable stripping down again and thredlocking screws ahhhhhhhh
and that jetpro is a pain in the butt to put backj on,any help apricated guys!!

The only thing I can think of is maybe you have the gear plate spacers incorrectly installed. They are the three tubing spacers that place the plate away from the motor. There is one that is smaller and if it is not in the right spot it can throw off the gear plate one way or another.

cheers, yeah a mate of mine mentioned the spacers alright and i took them off and they seem to be the right way on,im actually having doubt about the fitment of the cy engine, what do you lads think?? i have a funny feeling that it is the wrong fitment,as my old zenoah engine fitted like a dream, and also i had a problem putting on the small engine mount and mating every thing up underneath for the chassis screws, strange lads isnt it.especially as the layshaft runs through the engine mount afterall..:helpsmilie:

Any photos?

Are all the parts the same brand? I hear alot of Elcon parts need Elcon parts, you don't think this could be the issue?
Some FG vehicles came stock with a CY so not too sure about the difference.

no

yes all parts were the right ones, all came from hobbytec germany the fg specialists,i made sure they were all the right parts anyway,i had a lot of trouble with the small engine mount actually, strange,it didnt seem to want to bolt on easily under the cy engine,im lost right no with this, never had trouble this way,the alloy mounts were on my old zenoah engine, and was also a major pain to screw in to the mounts from under the chassis to secure it,maybe this could be the reason why i have trouble with the layshaft mating up as it runs through one of the engine mounts.

Now that would make sense. If the large motor mount is not true it will be a pain to get the shaft inserted. When you run the shaft into the gear plate where does it meet at the large mount bearing. Is it centered or off? If off then one of the two is screwed up.:(

Gear plate spacer

Hi BTB what are the right position of the spacer of the gear plate? thanks.

The small one will go with the hole that has the metal plate from the motor mount. The plate attachés the mount to the clutch housing. Thats why its a bit smaller due to that metal plate.
