I am new to 1/5 scale and just got a 5T the other week. Love running in the side of my house but this time of year we have a TON of leaves. I find them getting stuffed under the motor and inside the motor covers. I am afraid it may heat the engine up some.

Would it hurt to run with out the side covers? I am thinking the leaves would just blow away if the covers were not on.
 
I assume you have an HPI baja. If so, then yes, you will be fine without the side covers.. Allot of members have done screen mesh mods under they motor crankcase, or you can get the outerwear mesh for it as well.

I get leaves all the time and it can be a pain.

Yes, sorry it is the HPI Baja 5T.

I will look into the outerwears mesh, sounds like a good option. I was considering having a new one piece side made. The mesh mod sounds like almost a must have.
 
You are correct, especially if you are in a really leafy and grassy area.. I get the pine needles and then they start smoking from the heat.. Not good!!
