any one here use a plasma cutter for work or play? Im in the market for one right now. Ive got some cars I am going to be chopping for a small exporting company and need a plasma cutter. need some advice for the purchase of a cheap plasma cutter that gets the job done and will cut through anything that a car can throw at me.

Some Ideas on some different brands and models would be cool from the experienced ones. I need one by next week and I find myself staring at spec sheets not really sure what it all means. Im on a budget. The exporter that I am working for is not covering the tool since I am working as a private contract for him and I bid on the job. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks again

We used Hypertherm plasmas when I was on the tools. They were good but cost a fair bit but you will need something similar if its going to take some hammer day in day out

Talk to your local welding supply store would be your best bet. Than you can also get one that parts are available.

I have a thermal lance that i once used on a job...it'll get through reinforced concrete, hardened steel and safety deposit boxes:rolleyes::lol::lol::lol:

I'm a Miller man but the blue is expensive. Hobart makes good budget products. Thermal Dynamics is what we have at work. Plasmas are expensive even for a cheap one.

Great to have some feedback on the plasma cutter and your guys choice on the machine you went with. You know, I did look into my local welding supply stores and they are way out of my budget. I went with the longevity plasma cutter cause it has a good warranty, the customer service was awesome and I was able to get alot of info from the longevity forum at www.freeweldingforum.com.
I checked out the harbor freight machine. Good looking machine, but not as powerful as the 40D and I am guessing no product support. I paid the same price for the 40D, got a 5 year warranty and the machine is dual voltage.

Cant beat that, and if you can, let me know for my next welder or plasma cutter purchase...
