Hey guys,
New to this forum and 1:5, but have many 1:8 and 1:10 scale rcs.
Im wanting to build a 1:5 around a WeedEater Featherlite FL26 (25cc) gas engine. Im open to ordering parts as well as making my own. If anyone can help step by step, let me know.

Building one from scratch is pretty rewarding but it takes tools like a cheap mig welder,,grinder with cutoff wheels and grinding wheels,,chopsaw w/10" abrasive wheel,,plumbers torch turbo head with mapp gas,,a vise , drill or drill press , drill bits aswell as a few other things......

I built mine quick, cheap and simple....Its 35cc's with some modifications and its driven by a jackshaft drive to a live mini quad rear axle and took me roughly a month to build........

How did you know how big to make the frame/chassis? Is there a place with blueprints for a frame?
Yours looks nice by the way XD

everything is just your imagination. spend some time looking around at 1/5 scale cars and trucks, find out what wheelbase and width, shock length, gear ratios, etc from others cars like fg, and use that to base your design around. i think the biggest thing is picking what vehicle you want to use the drivetrain from.

providing you have a welder, grinder and fab experience, the biggest issue you may face is how to put a clutch on the motor you have. and in all honesty, the motor in a 1/5 scale is a very small portion of the budget, you can get a new cy23 (23cc) with carb and clutch for around $150, and that will mate to any drivetrain parts out there (engine mounts, clutch bell, ect. an rc/scooter engine such as the zenoah rc and cy rc series engines are designed for r/c use, will rev higher and perform better than a garden equipment motor, and may just be a better idea.

Fantastic job there - nice effort. Totally different than lazy guys like me just 'buying off the shelf' (or Trebor just putting ONTO the shelf !!:lol::lol:)

Atom, just removed the photos from the quote so it wasn't on the 2nd page with 4 posts. ;)

That is a very nice home build. Wouldn't you buy a new R/C motor rather then using a weed whip motor? I just didn't think the wheed whip ones were user friendly.

Thanks guys...Indeed using an r/c engine like the one in my 5b or Monster buggy would of probably been easier to mount but the gastank mounts on the weedeatter made a good mounting point and with a degree wheel and a dremel I made the 35cc rev out pretty mean plus it has some really good power....

The weed whipper costed me $79.00 at Sears and it has a pretty rugged clutch that I adjusted the throwout rpms by lightening the clutch pads by crossdrilling them.... Now that I have an r/c boat the flex shaft I have left over from the build will be put to good use as an extra drive shaft...

My next project is gonna be a bit bigger around 4 - 4 1/2 ft long and have a 50cc watercooled Polini engine in it from a pocketbike I picked up in trade for my OFNA GTP 1/8 onroad racer I wasnt using anymore...
