Not sure about a sealant if that's what you mean. I've only seen sealant used to seal edges on a cars manifold, 1:1 car that is. There are better head gaskets out there for baja engines. Some should chime in and say what they're using. Check out ddm to see what they have or your local rc hobby shop

Check out other threads on engine rebuilds.

Some are using gasket sealant when replacing heads .....

I honestly don't know as I haven't 'been there' yet. Normal gasket and 'nicely tight' (don't have a torque wrench!!) has been OK so far.

i ended up putting some locktite on screw and torquing them down and changed the plug. Engine fired up stayed running but still high idle with clutch engaging i eventually broke the pull start. I think i might need to check the clutch shoes I'm using the hpi clutch shoes with red springs in my Fg Sportline with 29cc head kit. Im wondering maybe i should have stuck to the chin yang clutch shoes

i use the reinforced gaskets from daves, they crush a bit for better seal, personally i hate sealants i have seen and rebuilt engines that have come with sealants inside and out, and some teflon gasket stuff that leaks like a sieve, stick to a good gasket and you wont have any issues, make sure its all clean and smooth prior to reinstalling the parts, brass brush works great for cleaning with out scratching the surfaces all up

When the engine's not running, is the clutch catching the clutch bell, or can it spin freely?
In time, the clutch spring on the basic clutch - many never change from it, so no insult intended here! - stretches a little, so it may be a little weaker and engaging early.

If the engine's revving a little, check the mixture settings - perhaps you're a little lean, at least on the low needle setting (this will increase the idle speed). 1 1/4 LOW, 1 3/8 HIGH is standard - each carb is slightly different and needles can wear, meaning settings will always differ from engine to engine.
Also, perhaps you can simply lower the idle by unscrewing the idle screw slightly?

Other than that, check all of the gaskets and bolts. If all of the above are correct, then as with nitro engines, you MIGHT have an air leak .....
It's worth checking the exhaust's tight as well.

Did you change the gasket? If the gasket is broken then air is getting in and the engine will rev higher because of this. If you changed the gasket and still have high revs just adjust your idle screw for it to idle lower.

i use gasket & sealer, remember though when you 1st run it after fitting new head gasket & engine gets hot, re-tighten the head bolts while the head is hot :)

well i replaced all the gaskets on engine went pretty smooth for my first time. I even found some helpful info on the forum on how to repair recoil starter saved me 25 bucks. Tomorrow we will see how she runs
