I hope it does take off mike and lets hope that no 1 brand runs away with it, how boring is that, every body with the same car, but no body wants an unreliable car that hits them in the pocket every week.
I personaly think the MCD W5 is an absolutely gorgeouse looking truck, to the point i was going to buy one but to be honest i think i'll wait until i learn a bit more about them.
I'm gona get down and watch you fellas slug it out on the track and then i'll get a idea of what the the best cars run like.
Thanks very much mike.[/QUOTE]

There are many new cars coming out. I hope to be proved wrong about the SC class but I think it'll be a fad that will wear off.

Could be, same thing happend in the 1/8th nitro's with the truggy's !

MCD's are made in Turkey, which is more Asian than it is European, culturally speaking. IMO.

Its very unfortunate of you to make such a comment. Have you ever even been to Turkey? It has land on both continents and has a mixture of both cultures in its own way. I live in Turkey and its far more "European" than most of the countries in the European Union. Every country in the world has different regions with different cultures and you should know that better since you live in the United States and I'm sure making comments about them would raise some eyebrows.

Besides, your comment is so unneccesary and wrong that the motors most people use in the large scale are made in Taiwan and Japan along with so many companies in other RC categories.

I met with the owner of MCD and have seen their production plant. The guys really know what they are doing and are ahead of competition in terms of catching the trends in RC. They did the first 4x4 1/5 car along with the first 4x4 SCT and now the first OEM electric conversion kit.

To respond to the original question, I own an MCD W5 Factory Team Edition and its a great car. I have not compared it to a Losi on the track as I don't have one, but I won the National Championship here with my MCD and it held up great on very tough surfaces. In the end it all depends on the driver imo.

Cheers.

I spent hours talking to the french FG Seb about his 4wd car - the full ins and outs of a cats backside so to speak, and thats what made me want one. It really is a very tidy bit of kit, the belt drive??? As Nige says, it seems wrong on an off road car but with only slight amounts of sealing with the window draught excluder foam when the build is being done, everything works and stays working.
Seb did snap a belt in practice but it had been on there for the best part of 2 years - they race on dirt too so it's not bad going in my opinion - that said, I'd have put a new one on for the start of the Euros.

The FG Leopard 2 is the most reliable car I've ever raced - I'm almost certain that it's finished every race it started and I've only changed a few bushed and the odd road end. The 4wd version gives me the same feeling so I can't see the new FG SC trucks trucks being inferior to whats on the market at the moment - I'd guess they were better.

I have been building and modding rc for a long time now and can say this that any company that is looking to build winning car or truck should look at the drive train and how to use it as clean and as simple as possible. That being said.
If you have drive lines that use one for the front and one for the rear and then use a gear on both to make it turn that is about as simple as it gets. Now the lay out to get balance with this simple drivetrain is going to change how the rc handles the weight that is being used. Center of gravity and then shock and suspension geometry come into play. keeping this simple and strong will have you a winner on the track and with customers. As 4wd go I have two that I have bought and one that I designed and built, that are 1/5 scale and I can tell you that there are things I look for first, then I go about upgrading the short comings the rc has. Everyone has there favorites as to what that they like to work with in doing this Mine is 7075rc as for the two 1/5 scale that I enjoy they are the Redcat XB-E and the Losi 5ive. There simple in design and they hold up with some mods that I added as I used them. The XBE took the most mods right off as it need the bearing carriers(hubs) servo almost before the first lipos ran out of charge. I knew that before buying it for the most part and that I how I found 7075rc. The only thing That I want to try on it know is the losi 5ive shocks on it. As for the 5ive, the steering servo went to the breaking and a stronger servo went to the steering the pipe was bought with the truck (new), and so power was always pretty good. I know run the Gizmo full mod with the matching pipe that can come with the package deal. I like the torque that it offers over the OBR full mod that is the same size. I enjoy both buggies and it's hard to pick witch I like better as they are very different from each other. The XB-E is pure speed! And the losi is a great handling and very scale truck.

Like I said, when I owned the mcd v4 comp. I just looked at it and listened to the mechanics of it when flat out and I just thought this thing is over engineered, it sounded like a grinding lawn mower, far too many gears, on e I saw the losi 5ive I knew this was right as all the proven nitro buggies had used the exact same design for years before, the only thing that went against it was its weight and now that has been addressed with the new Losi desert truck xl,
IMO this will smash the competition, can't wait to se race results in next couple of years ;)
