After a long absence for large scale rc im finally back and looking for a decent reliable short course truck or baja buggy.Ive been looking at MCD W5 ,FG 4 by 4 Baja and Losi 5 T.
I need some guidance as i want a 4 by 4 ready to run that doesn't fall apart if you blow on it i have seen a couple of old posts from 2008 regarding the W5 and 5 T but have those problems been fixed with the W5? i don't want to fork out a large sum of cash for what essentially is going to be a hobby for a blast at local park or possibly old bmx track to find it falling apart at the first bump it encounters.
this is my order of preference 1 MCD 2 FG 3 Losi but i am worried about the MCD looking back at that post. The FG Baja i have liked for a long time and the 4 by 4 was just being released when i had to sell my HPI baja 5B so i have no clue on how reliable the belt drive is and that just leaves the Losi which to be honest im not sure i like.Any helpful insites would be very much appreciated many thanks

The Losi is great right out of the box
The MCD rr5 is to forget the rest
The only problems is there price
If you get by that you will not need to upgrade them at all
Also in USA the MCD has a parts supply problem with only one source
And the only reason I'm saying that is a lot of Losi owners are weighing on MCD gas tanks to put in the Losi for fuel stop racing they are spring closed lid and not twist on

I vote Losi. I cannot imagine it could not be tailored to your liking. Tremendous aftermarket support these days. I can't even recognize some 5ive's they're so heavily modded into buggy or desert/trophy truck configuration.....You can even get 2 speeds and/or reverse gears!
 
There's KM in the buggy's, SC and 5T copy market as well.
At the moment, Marders are going cheap and still great fun and value.

Best 'compromise' is one of the 2 Losis - loads of hopups, but the standard machine is pretty good to start with.

If your primary requirements are 4X4 and toughness out of the box, you can't beat the Losi 5ive-T. If you're leaning toward the buggy side, the MCD RRV5 looks/performs nice, but historically, they can be delicate and parts in the US are only available through LargeScaleRC. If you want a combo, OCBaja Designs makes a nice Losi buggy conversion kit for the 5ive-T. Uses 95% of Losi parts and is 10+ lbs lighter than the truck. The kit is pricey (~$650), but you can sell off a number of things from the truck to get you close to recouping the majority of the kit cost.
 
I prefer the MCD w5 but trying to track one down in the UK that is RTR seems hard work. Used to have a HobbyStore in southampton that closed down to "Move to a diferent location" and has never reopened as a damn good shop to nerest hobbystore is now an hours drive away and they seem to specialise in fg does anyone know of a MCD dealer on the south coast of uk?
 
ok well rang shop today to gather some info on W5 and was told that a new version is coming out in the next six months as w5 went out of production 2 years ago so that means i either wait and get the new version when it comes out which im not too keen on as it might come with issues that haven't been ironed out.
That leaves the FG Baja 4 by 4 which i know had issues when it first came out or the Losi
So it looks like its going to be the losi so ive decided to go with rolling chassis and then go mad on hop ups and paint the shell or maybe go for a wrap just need to find out who does them and for how much.Will keep you updated once i have project costs etc and hope to have the 4 by 4 i want within the next 6 months with a bit of luck
 
Well Mcd v4 or w5 which share the same platform are nice Rc,however very delicate. Do not expect them to not to brake when you bash or make a mistake. Go for dbxl or 5ive truck or maybe a 5ive buggy conversion as a happy medium...
