Hi guys, i bought an FG Marder a while ago which i'm converting to what i'll be racing (topstox) and have a few spare parts, which i'd bought before a whole new marder, as i was going to buy piece by piece (the affordable but expensive way!) including a chassis plate, and was wondering if i could make the start of a monstertruck with the bits i've got? are they the same chassis? what about uprights and wishbones? I know there's a conversion kit i've seen somewhere but i'd be doing it slowly!
Any help/advice is appreciated

Cheers James

Yes mate you can.

Ive just converted my MT to all alloy so have alot of plastic MT parts up for grabs if your intrested?

The chassis' are the same but the wishbones, front shock tower, shocks, tires and wheels, pinion and spur gears and a few other bits are different... I was going to convert my M/T into a buggy a few years back, but decided it was cheaper to buy a buggy instead. Now I have both. There is a guy on here that turned his Carson/Smartech into an FG M/T... It can be done, but it's a little pricey.

Keep an eye on Ebay UK... There is FG stuff on there all the time!

Good luck..

Hi guys, thanks for the replies, and for the offer super, but unfortunately i'll be after aluminium parts as well. Thanks anyways.
Not even got my first car finished, and im after another, i think the 1/5 scale bug has bitten. :helpsmilie:

Thanks for the info

Are you going for the alloy for the looks or durability? I ask, because I have an FG M/T with 16 gallons of fuel through it and the only thing I have broken was the rear diff... All the plastics including the engine mounts are stock! The plastics are incredibly strong!!

Hi Trip, it'd be mainly because im a bit of a magpie, attracted to shiny things! and it would also give the other half something else to polish with a duster  I might end up with plastics due to cost, time will tell. I do like the plastics though as i guess they have more flexibility in them, take an impact and return to original shape a lot more than the ally.
Thanks for that!

If you are going after the shiny stuff, more power to you... If you are going after strength... Remember, aluminum bends and stays bent, but takes a ton of punishment... Plastics bend and then bend back!!! Or break!

I will say, aluminum sure looks a whole lot better than black plastic! But the alloy transfers the "Shock" to the weakest link!!!

Do whatever you want to do to make you the happiest, after all, that's what's all about!

I would make my truck all alloy, but I am too damn cheap!

Post pics of whatever you do!

Have fun!!!

yeah my mt has taken a few good hard tumbles and i instantly thought arr i broke it but the plastic has shocked me time after time.

change the pinion and spur, toss mt tires on and you have a monster buggy. most stuff is interchangeable I have found with fg. I have offroad parts on my on road semi, an f1 dif case etc.

good luck

Yes it can be done as I've done it myself but cost me a fair bit coz I had to replace nearly every Smartech parts to FG.

If I have to do it again.........I will but my wife will definitely kill me:helpsmilie:

Have a look HERE

a up mate.. where abouts in notts are you.. im from worksop. we might be able to meet up at some point and you can compare the differenmce between your marder and my monster truck so you can see 1st hand the difference..

Thanks everyone for the replies and info.

Sorry 1/1 i didn't see your post! I've just bought a new set as i couldn't find any :crying: and now i see that!

Hi shaggy, im from Arnold, i still have my marder, although its 2/3 converted into a topstox, i'll have to put a few pics up at some point. It will get finished....eventually...:dots:

I needed something to run, and had a spare chassis etc so im also making an MT that i can run whenever i want, as the topstox is limited to a track. I've bought a load of bits off Super and so im well on the way to an MT as well! can't wait to have a play with it:blink:

One thing i will ask peoples...what size wheel squares are generally used please on MT's?
Oh maybe one more... Does anyone happen to know the part# of the rear and side body mounts for MT? I'm struggling to see what is what on the exploded diagrams...
Thanks

Cheers Brad, i'm putting together an order for Hobbythek, will grab a rollcage at some point.

I've been looking at wheel squares, the ones with the pins in? any better than normals? also unsure of width to get...14, 17mm etc...

Would someone mind confirming these standard MT gearings please? before i buy the ones i need :helpsmilie:

pinion 16, Spur 48 layshaft pinion 14, diff 48(already got)

Thanks

Wheel squares are 9.5 steel on the back and 14.5mm alloy on front.

Ive put 17mm with pins on front and going to fit the 14.5 with pins on the back, all steel.

Gearing is right.

:cool2:

stock gearings is 16/48 and 14/48 diff

16/48 16/48 works well if you don't want it wheeling all the time

Thanks Brad, i thought the pin versions seemed good...mind sharing where youre getting/got them from? as i can't find any that size with pins

Thanks Benckie, i'll have to see, wheelies eh?

Cheers guys

Cheers Brad (again!)

All bits have been ordered, (that i know of) just to wait now i guess

no doubt i'll have missed something :dots:
