How do you fellas feel about an electric conversion for the KM's?

I see a castle creation electric conversion kit for ~$550US which produces the equivalent of 10hp.

pros/cons?

The main advantage would be recharging the batteries instead of buying gas. Also the engine tuning issues will be non existant. You wont piss off your neighbors if you want to run after dark.

Disadvantages would be no noise, come on, its a Baja. No smell, see previous. You arent taking into account the cost of the 8S battery setup, 2 14.8V batteries that will have enough C rating will set you back ATLEAST another $400. And finally, runtime is DRAMATICALLY shorter with the electric conversion, like 15 minutes tops compaired to 40+ minutes from gas power. And then you are going to have to wait about 2 hours to run again while you recharge the Lipo packs.

you can get turnigy nanotech batteries for cheap from hobbyking and they work great. charging time depends on your charger. i have 4s 6000mh nanotech batteries and you can charge them up to 5c witch would be 30amps. i have a high end charger that'll charge up to 18amps but i usually only charge between 10 and 12 amps and it only takes about 15-20 mins. but he is right run time between 12-15mins and the you'll have to recharge or put other batteries in. or you can go high end and spend the big bucks and buy the 12000mh batteries from max amps and have longer run times but you'll be up around and past the $400 mark.

And with this heavy of a vehicle you are gonna need some batteries with major C rating on them. I smoked a pair of 25C constant rate in my E-Maxx a couple months back, total nuclear melt down, fried my Mamba Monster and everything.

my buddy converted a redcat mt to brushless and his motor is the size of a popcan and runs flightmax, zippy, and turnigy lipo's in his with 30c ratings. he also had a firehammer that he converted and never had a problem. if it's geared right it works. but your right, you have to be serious electric to convert. myself i would stay gas.

you get a smell from time to time...........i had 2 momba monster esc's blow on me this summer at the races. one of them had a 8 inch flame coming from it.lol melted my nicely painted 1/8 scale body in the process. my buddy that converts his 1/5 scales to electric bought 3 of the castle 1/5 scale esc's, went to plug it in for the first time and puff, magic smoke.
