Here is my MCD RR with an X-can exhaust and twin DDM carbon silencer exiting on the rear sides.

I never really liked X-can because it doesn't have a good top end power but i like the idea of twin pipes protruding on the back of the RR so the X-can is the ideal exhaust without doing too much modification. ive seen this twin pipe being done on the HPI 5B and some FG's but i haven't seen them done with the MCD RR so i gave it a go.

aside from the Xcan and the DDM silencers the only thing i bought was a couple 15mm copper elbow tubes (X4) from B&Q, hose clips (X8) and high temp water hose from halfords. which doesn't cost that much.

yeah I know! it looks like a plumbers work it it does the job LOL!

That's pretty sweat. Not sure if it would be a problem but you bought the pre solder elbows. Those elbows have solder in them. I can't imagine it getting hot enough to melt but may want to swap them.

LOL!! i didnt know that it was pre soldered (i know nothing about plumbing). i bought this particular elbow because it has a ring around the edge thinking it will be good to help keep the hose in place. but i don't think the exhaust will generate enough heat to melt the solder otherwise the hose will melt too. ill check it after my run tomo if it show signs of melting ill dismantle it and melt all the remaining solder the put it back.

Ah, no biggy if it does look to melt just heat it up with a torch. Just as it heats to liquid wipe it out with a rag. Then it will be gone.;)

Ive run it today and it held up pretty good and the sound was pretty nice. it did change the behavior of the car though because of the added torque. im having problem with cornering because it keeps oversteering, but did manage to get the hang of it later during the day. and i broke the rear diff....! im not sure if it was from the torque issue. so im not gona be running the car for a while.

my next project will be to use copper tubing all the way so it would look much nicer. all need now is someone to weld it properly.

If you use the same fittings all you do is heat the joint to melt the solder & you will see it beading around the joint. Heat it too much & the solder will run off!! Here's my twin pipe marder

Nice mod my friend.. I wanted to do something similar but never got around to it, and then got a samba pipe.


BTB: you got some good eyes to see those things had solder in them...

Nice car mate! i was actually looking for the similar xcan with exhaust going on the sides but i cant find any other wise we would have the same set up. LOL!!!,

you know what, after my last run, the solders had melted, and the copper elbows was so discoloured, signs of too much heat. so i think if i relied on the solder it would have defenitely came off. so if im going to use copper tube all the way i think it shoould be welded properly. at first i didnt i think it would generate that much heat but after inspecting it, i was surprised.
 
I bought it off Voo & was already like that. Its the twin side exit version but 1 has been blanked off then the other side drilled & threaded. It had a similar arrangement to yours but the pipes bent around the outside of the shell to rear exit but was a pain takin em off when I wanted to remove shell. Just got some long stingers & cut em back to suit so there are no joints now.

You should be able to bend some thin wall ally tube by hand to get the 'S' form. I will find a link for you!

thanks man, the samba pipe was my first choice but lack of money was the real reason why i bought the xcan lol!! (sambas are quite expensive). the twin pipe idea only came when i found out that my friend was selling his 2X DDM silencers. then i remembered he used this silencers on his Xcan when he had his HPI 5B. so i thought why not try this on the RR, so i bought a 2nd hand Xcan on ebay there you go, a twin pipe was born.
 
Try a local fab shop or sheet metal works. They would probably let you have an off-cut & might even be able to form it for you if you ask nicely :cool2:
