MCD XR5 Headlights Question

I have them and they look nice, but been too lazy to really figure out which bulbs go in them and how to secure them. I used double sided gorilla tape and used leds from my Kyosho but it’s not secure enough. I think with some gorilla glue it should hold up fine. The material seems somewhat brittle, so I’d expect them to shatter into pieces if I crash it hard.

Thanks for sharing, the red lights look great! I still have not installed mine as I haven’t spent much time finding the correct size led’s in white and bright color.

Ya, I just took the taillights out of my Kyosho Fazer for a test. I saw someone on the MCD fb group ask about them, and kpoprc replied back that they use 5mm bulbs and there’s a little light leak, so it’s recommended to use heat shrink to get it to fit snug and properly.

He also mentioned that he’s working on taillight buckets!

Tail light buckets would be awesome! Also, thanks for sharing. Do you know where I can find bright 5mm leds?

No worries.

So for the led bulbs I think you can get them from Amazon for pretty cheap.

I’m heading to a hobby shop to pick up a few things in a hour, gonna take the headlight bucket with me to see if they have anything that fits properly. I’ll report back in a bit 😂

so I picked grabbed some 5mm bulbs and they fit loose like I mentioned before. Gonna put some heat shrink around them and they should fit fine. I’ll post some pics when I do.

Are they bright? Also how many volts are they? Thanks for sharing, I would love to see pics of it when done.

I bought a set that came with the LED's and wiring harness from Cardinal's first run. I'm pretty sure they are 5mm LED, but I'd have to double check. To be honest I was pretty disappointed with the "fit" of the buckets against the body, and having to sort of just glue them in place with silicon (or similar). Plus they were also big enough that they contacted the larger diameter rally tires I have on my XR5-Max, so I ended up just not using them. I have 'em sitting in a box, and I keep trying to decide if I should sell them, or just use them as a reference model to design a better set. Hmmm.....

do these fit the non max version of the XR5 as ive seen mixed comments, some say they do, others say they wont!?

My guess would be no. They’re shaped ti fit the curve of the lwb Fiat Tipo body.

I’m sure you would be able to make them fit and stop light leak, but it might not look perfect if you’re up close.

I still have my headlights just clear, and I think that itself looks nice.
