As some of you may know ill be swapping my FG MT for a HPI soon (or plan to be), i want to clean up the chassis and side plates on the MT which are made from alloy, whats a good cleaner to use? I don't want to spend hours polisihing, my MT has never been a shelf queen and has been used everyweekend without fail for the last 10 months so it got the usual scratches etc.

Any ideas?

get some automotive polish that leaves a wax behind, and some very fine emery or wire wool.

quickly buff up the plates with the emery/wool to remove the oxide layer, then then a quick polish will prevent it going dull.

or if you just want to clean, meths or petrol get most muck off

autosol paste is more aggressive than the liquid crap. I ordered some autosol when I was working on the 427 cobra for an auto parts place to fix the side pipes and they got me the liquid.. very wimpy cutting ability...

blue magic is a finishing polish that puts a wax seal like brawnfg mentioned. the steel wool (bulldogs, or even an sos pad) will be the fastest way to clean

I love autosol paste. I've applied it with my hands to cragar rims that someone used wheel acid on and made milky looking. cleans that problem up. paste that is .. I am running low too. I want to toss the liquid stuff in the garbage. you can buy it online. Slawhammer sent me a link to site he used when wrenching.

it's in an email somewhere lol

got some autosol yeasterday. worked well on pipe and inside of chassis but scratched areas like side plates and underneath didnt seem to do much, any suggestions to make it look a bit better?

You could wet rub with 320grit on the savage areas and then 240 and then 320 and then 400 and then 800 and so on until its fine enough to polish.Ive rubed lots of scratches out of aloy parts and made them look new again with a bit of elbo grease,I also have a bench grinder with a buffing weel on it witch makes light work.

If you have a grinder ,take the wheel off and replace it with a Calico stiched mop. Then use this (ebay number 140312776824)

thanks fellas, no grinder of anykind for me :(

ill leave it as is, the new owner says he's going to bash it straight away so no point making it look like a shelf queen when it never has been.
