MK1 and 2 Ford Escort shell

Is anyone interested in a MK1 or 2 Ford escort shell if I can find someone to make them?

There were two people who made these but I think lack of orders made them not produce anymore ?

Myself I'm an old school Escort fan and I think there are many more people like me out there.

I see the wheelbase for the HPI Baja is roughly 570mm and the FG Marder/MT/Stadium etc is 465mm roughly.

The bloke who made these to scale made them in a 535mm wheelbase so there will be a bit of engineering to be done.

I'll create a poll to see who wants them and maybe if there is a decent enough order he will go back into manufacturing ?

love the mk1 memorys of child hood.. got a 1/10 scale metal one as a model but like the mk2 reminds me of driving me dads mk2 escort van about way bk in the early 90s... so for me mk 2 as a 1/5th shell... and nice one voo2doo for asking and putting this pole up...

Yes , they were a cracking car.When I was a nipper we used to buy them for about fifty quid and whip the engine out and jam a 2.0 Pinto in them , great with RWD !
I had a MK1 Mexico when I was 17 , jeeze, the price of them now!!! Ownes an RS 2000 and more MK1 and 2's than you can shake a stick at.

I like both.
The Rothmans Mk2 is great - 'flat front' of course.
I have many of the Scalextric ones - 1 & 2 - rally cars.
Mk1's look great as well.

look nice nice colour too..im going to see if the many colleges/ universitys here in sheffield would/could make me a mk2 escort model to vacume form shells from it .. dnt ask dnt get .worth a try who knows i mght be saying in the nxt few mths that ive the master mold for the mk2 escort shell ... ill let you know how i got on. fingers crossed ..

voo2doo any sugestions on wot material to have the mold made from... wondering if those 3d printers can do the job or get someone to carve it out of clay or wood.???

how do you mean voo2doo 535mm wheelbase is that lengh or wide? cus looks to big to be wide and small if lengh wise..

535 mm wheelbase is the distance between axles of the 'standard' largescale longer wheelbase FG touring chassis.

I would guess a carefully printed 3-D printed mould might work - it may be too big for most other than 'industrial' printers, would need to be strong to withstand warmed lexan being pulled over it (vacuum also?) and may need to be smoothed out - typically seems to print in layers and seems to leave ridges.

true forgot about that with the ridges 3d makes.. remember back in the early 80s my great uncle had a mk1 escort in canary yellow . left it to rot as the years went by. shame as there really hot at the readys now...how much do you think folk will pay for a decent 1/5th scale escort shell... ive personaly never had to buy a new shell .. i know the 5th scales are pretty expensive.. im dead set on trying me best to get a 1/5th escort shell by doing them my self ..im in the coming mths getting my man shed up so ive got space to make them... just that if i can get customers upfront it will give me a better chance of getting a mold made...thats wot im hopeing anyway..

This was the same as mine but mine had a black bonnet too. It was Daytona yellow.

1/5 made by 'an unknown' I would expect £45 - 80 depending on crispness / quality of the moulding, material used and thickness.

FG had choice of 1.5 mm or 2 mm thick I think.

thanks atom 3624. and thanks voo2doo i was thinking similar price my self. but the price reflects on the thickness and quality of the shell.. for some reason voo2doo i had canary yellow in my head must be from another car.

remember think it was the year 86 . bloke up rd who we knew had a capri in the same yellow with black bonnet looked nice back then .with chrome grill n that....ive a tiny model of the same one only about 2" long...cars arnt the same as they used to be ive a 15 plate astra gtc 16v turbo sri.. tbh they all seam to look same cars these days . back then astra gte sri ect was wot it said . now all new cars seam to look alike..

The measurement of the car:
Lengt 96 cm
Width 47cm
Height 33 cm
Wheelbase 60cm

I also have the windows for it.
The engine is a Zenoah 22cc, and it starts and runs - se the enclosed movie.

In the bag !!! I bought this a week ago , its in the process of coming from Sweden. After about ten years....FINALLY!

On a Yankee Concept 2 chassis, shell is in fibre glass and its going to be one heck of a project.
