hello all

i know all there is to know about stripping, renewing, repairing electricks on my fg but what i experienced today was weird!!

at a certain range the steering started acting up and going on opposite lock, upon turning to left she would turn right viasa versa,strange.....

i did get it wet a few days ago a bit but not too much,i dryad out the cars reciver and servos and connectors just in case but wasnt sure how damp my transmitter was/is, would a damp transmitter cause the above?

Any damp in the electronics could play havoc with the equipment and cause all sorts of problems. Probably worth putting the electrics in the airing cupboard for a couple of days to be safe. :)

ya, a tiny bit of moisture can cause problems. best thing you can do is stuff the rx into a ballon and shoo goo the end of it with the wires coming out and then mount.

and do your best to waterproof the servos. alot of options to do this.

PlastiDip, balloons, orings, RTV sealant. if you expect alot of possible moisture (running after a rain, in the rain/snow, ect. ) you can really help by opening up the servo case, both top and bottom, and filling them with dielectric grease. the grease, is in the cavity, so if it gets around water, the water cant get in becuz the case is full of Dielectric. also use TINY ASS orings on the case screws, and on the main gear, and seal the edges of case top/bottom/main case with rtv.

timmah,thanks very much.

that must be the best most 'brilliant' advice i have ever got about my fg,
jesus thats a good idea with the balloon for the reciver, and the greese for the servos, great stuff out of you.thanks man

the bloddy thing was a bit crazy today i think i need to take out the hairdryer now to dry her up.

the balloon for the rx is a great idea though once again, nothing more annoying than moisture problems.

i always dry the car when it gets wet with a hairdryer eg/reciver/wires and all the rest. servos are ment to be water proof,i always use hitek servos and they are good that way but im pretty sure some bit always finds its way through them.

cheers again for that timmah.
very very informative i must say.

Like Tim said: Rtv sealant, balloons,o-rings..I have used all of these my self...
I even put balloons over shock springs..works for a while to keep dirt out..
Good tip ..TIM ...for those that have not tried them before...AKASlawhammer

I don't know if this true or not, but I remember reading awhile back that water itself doesn't cause the electrical problems, the deposits FROM the water causes the problems. Something about the low DC voltage doesn't have the energy to jump the contacts in the circuit board? I don't know, I am a machinist not an electrical engineer lol.

So, I guess if you wash all the water away from you running surface with distilled water you should be good to go? LOL

Trip.. I just opened a can of worms, didn't I?

true. Distilled water is non conductive. it is the desolved minerals and such that creats conductivity.

mmm did ye know that there are over 1billion micro organisims in water??

water we like at all, drink anybody?

ah i have often stripped open servos to regrease them but they generally never give trouble unless steering is under excessive load,or i suppose crashes to the wheels that causes turning of the wheels against the motor.

i use hitecks always i find them excellent and very relibale and they are reasonably priced.

they are sold with a guarantee aswell as being water proff....

so why go near them...
