Its all to do with gearing.
Gearing is SHORTER with the Monster, as the circumference is much bigger.
Gearing is LONGER in the Marder, as the circumference is smaller.
I have a strong motor, known as a Trevor Simpson 2-bolt reed valve 28.5 - good power, and with the tuned pipe, its excellent.
I tried longer gearing on it ..... IT BOGGED - couldn't pick up.
Horses for courses.
If you put taller gearing on - smaller spur, larger pinion, the acceleration will decrease, but the top end will increase - possibly eventually if its too tall.
Staying close to stock gearing is an excellent compromise, unless you have a 2-speed, which is only useful on-road, as many find it not good off road.
The 2-speed will permit the vehicle to reach a decent speed before changing to the higher gear, thus avoiding the engine 'bogging', or being 'off cam' as they would say for a 1:1.
