Has anyone figured out an easy way to mount a standard size steering servo in the XB-E / XB / XT? I have a HiTec HS-7950 which is HiTecs strongest servo. I know that some of the other steering servo's people are using are different size than the stock servo but they are still bigger than "standard".

All I had to do to mount my Hitec Steering Servo was drill 2 new holes because the Hitec's have larger Center to Center Mounting Holes.

I had a HS-7980TH installed in my XB-E.... Had to remove it as I kept stripping the horns.. Even stripped the aluminum horns...

I put in a HS-5755MG in there instead, and have not stripped a servo arm yet....

If you want to install it though, get the aluminum throttle servo mounting plate for the MT/TT, and use it for the steering. The holes line up nice, but install it with the beveled edge over the bumps and you will not have to cut off the mounts. You may have to trim the aluminum mount to fit the Hitec servo though...

Thats a great idea, thanks.

I know that is a lot of servo but I scored it for only $55 shipped on ebay...couldn't pass that up.

Which horn is that?

Hanger 9 1.5 inch Aluminum servo arm. http://www.horizonhobby.com/products/aluminum-sx-arm-1-5-hitec-HAN9155

Like I said... I went through 4 of these before I gave up and went with hs-5755mg servo with the supplied plastic servo horn. I have been running with that for a few months now with out any problems. http://servocity.com/html/hs-5755mg_servo.html

The 5755mg servo has a heavy duty spline (15 tooth) versus the 7980/7950 which has a standard spline.

The 7980/7950 servo has the torque to handle the steering on the XB-E, but the spline size is just not up to the job.

The link to servo city that I provided will show you the difference in spline size.

I had the same problem in my 5b when using the standard size servo's. The Hitec spline is too small to handle steering and will strip the horns.

This is a fantastic set up. Going to have try this.

sweet Im gonna try the standard size AND go all Traxxas Water Proof servos when I place my next parts order ! The TRAXXAS Water Proof servos are Tuff I still have the first one i ever bought and it has been submerged and still going strong :) My steering servo is already been replace with WP

I fabbed up my own plate out of some 1/4 inch plastic sheet I had laying around.

I'm going to use the same stuff to widen the battery trays to fit my (2) 6S packs.
