Hey all,

OK I have all parts for the FG ready to be fitted as from last time the rear drive axle was broken. Now i had an idea of making the fg mt longer in length with a lighter chassis. To do that I have to take off the belt and the fron Diff setup. I also have a custom chasis made at an aluminium shop. 3mm thick and a little bit longer.

In the rear the diff setup is covered with the belt gears. If I remove it will it effect performance or will it lose balance(refering to the differential in the back)? Aside from that what do you think of this setup?

As for gears, am trying to get best speed matching with rpms in the dunes, what kinda gears you guys think should I go for? (27.2cc engine in the porting process) The gear plate will stay plastic because I couldnt get the alloy gear plate nor the alloy brake pad set. DDM torqur pipe, WT990 carb, Baja 5b wheel adapters so i can put them sand buster tires.

If it does affect performance you could always make some weights to substitute the diff and balance it up again. The standard chassis is 4mm thick and that bends easily enough so you might experience a bit too much flex with your custom 3mm chassis especially as its longer. Will be ok on the flat but I assume you will be doing jumps & running some rough ground.

mainly dunes, small jumps but wont be big. What do you think of the gears, stock is good or should I upgrade?

the 4mm thick is too heavy, thats why as I wanted longer i went less thickness. Hope it holds up well!!

Try the stock gearing & see how it goes. It will give you a fair starting point and then you can decide whether you need more bottom end zip and acceleration or more top end speed.
Your saving grace with the chassis thickness is running on dunes cos there is plenty of give in the sand itself. Hope its ok but if not you can always change it or possibly add some strengthening bars. I would def think about adding strength to the kick up angle at the front. This is a weak point even on the std 4mm.

Sounds interesting.
You can always brace the chassis if there's too much flexing I suppose.
Do you have a body in mind, as it's a longer chassis?
The 'standard' F150 MT body may look out of place.
There is the Hurrax Yukon - bigger than the FG body.

Al.

I don't have a body in mind yet, however i want everything to get back together first to see if it will really work. There are doubts about the chassis holding up, so yea its gona get a work around untill I get the best solution.

Sperera, my MT currently has the 4wd belt system... am planning to switch to 2wd because of the longer chassis plate.

OK ill keep stock gears and test it out. SHould I use the MT fron end still? am feeling its addign weight, or should i substitue it with a salvaged nitro end? lol the lighter the faster eh? but more risky of breaking out.

Thanks for the info guys, appreciate it.

Stick with the MT front end IMO :D
