Yep I learned a valuable lesson today when running on a open paddock today that had its long grass cut a couple of days ago. My Mt was running like a Champ for about 10 minutes when I noticed a fair amount of smoke tailing behind it as I pulled it up by me and immediately killed the engine smoke was coming out from under the body. I quickly removed the body and found the entire Truck jammed full of grass. It was unbelievable how much was there the fire had started on the exhaust just above the full tank. I was able to remove the grass that was lit thankfully. It burnt my cage, fuel lines, fuel tank brace and started to melt the tank. Most of the damage is superficial just looks a little melted and smells like fire. Just glad I stopped it when I did. I don't think I will be running any of my cars on freshly cut grass that has dryed off just not worth the risk.

Same exact thing happened to me yesterday with leaves lucky I didnt have the body on! Thats a bummer GTS hope it didnt do any real damage:(

It had not rained in eastern oregon for 6 months, dryer than a powder house until 2 days ago. I do know that for paper to ignite with no flame requires temp of 451 degrees- grass? no idea. chain saws, bikes, 4 wheelers are required by the forest service to have spark arrestors in america. these 5th scale cars are sorta unknown to the forest service. if they were ran in the woods i bet they would require some sorta arrestor- if conditions were right- piece of carbon- blown out piston ring- if the humidity was low enough- it could start fire. Gotta wonder when they will require arrestors for the r-c cars. I do know that on a 2 stroke dirt bike, a freshly packed -cleaned arrestor -silencer combanation pulls smoother -harder off the bottom -midrange. just saying-

gotta say this -the epa is useing there muscle to get rid of 2 strokes. look at what happened to dirt bikes- gone. now every one has to buy a pig- thumper 4 stroke. Keep a close eye on Califorina, they will be at the forefront on the 2 stroke assult- they already have banned weed eaters-leaf blowers- 2 strokes in certan areas.

I know you are definitely correct I cant see them letting these engines continue forever, which sucks big time!

yea, how would you like to have to make a living in the woods running a 4 stroke chain saw- my arms hurt just thinking about it. Califorinas carb - califorina air resourses board is really screwing the desel users big time- requireing all engines to be replaced- farms- heavy equipment- truck drivers- yea, keep a close eye on Califorina.

Alfred, you are correct, fourstroke mx bikes are pigs..lol..i had an 09 rmz450, great bike just weighed a ton, like trying to stop a freight train, sold it and got a kx250f, just to shed some weight lol...i don't race so i can ride a cr125 and it wouldnt matter..except for the fact that i weigh 205 lol , a silencer would be nice, you could have a long one for noise and a shorty for snap, i wonder how hard would it be to have a mechanically actuated exhaust valve like 2stroke mxers? possibly driven of the crank with a centrifugal setup. do you remember how much more and broader power they brought to 2strokes...

yes, if you put a thumper on the scales - some may be lighter. but still a pig! its all about top heavy ness- rotating mass- the more you rev them, the less they want to turn. oink -oink- lol. As for our hobby, gitzmotors boat pipes - some of them have built in silencers . no idea if they overheat or kill power.

heres the thing, on an mx bike the silencer is part of the overall tuned length, on the rc's..its an afterthought, the tuned length is changed as well as some added backpressure, worth it though if noise + spark is a concern...maybe one day the pipes will come as a pipe/silencer combo..tuned to work that way..would be sweet...

they are allready here- for boats.- gitzmotors makes them. internal. doubtful its a spark arrestor.
