Hi fellas, been a while since I posted but I still check in reguarly to search tips and mods.


Had my maverick blackout for just over a year now and it has been an experience. Despite doing the cvd mods drive cup mods I'm still throwing money at it just for a ten minute run before something else breaks.


I'm at the stage now where it's currently being rebuilt after a full stripdown. I'm now planning to convert to an xb. At the moment all I've done is anodised most of the alloy parts black and had the screws plated a yellow/olive colour it's getting there but I'm hitting a few problems and hpi are not helping really. Do I need the washers in the diffs? When stripping down the diffs there weren't any there but I've found 2 diff rebuild kits one with, one without washers.


It works out in the uk that I'll be paying 7 pounds for 6 washers which frankly like most maverick parts is a rip off. Does anyone know the size of washer used? Also does anyone know what size o rings are in the diff? The ones behind the gears look like x rings but I don't know for sure, again hpi are reluctant to help with specific sizes.


I'm going to run 2wd for a little while so I can save up for more cvd's and better gearing. I see there is a better diff case for another model so I'm guessing the mt case is ok?
 
My DR had no washers in the diff so I just put a shim in each side to stop wear on the O ring.

I just took a drive cup to the LHS and got shims to fit over it
 
Cheers for that, is that all they do protect the o rings? I'll pop down my hs and see if they have any shims.

It looks that way to me and as shims are a better grade and smoother steel they should be even better.

I bought a diff kit and the washers look rough in comparison

If the HS doesn't have them your local bearing place should

Mine are just wide enough to cover the o rings
 
Digital Vernier Calipers

I use a Digital Vernier Caliper to get most of my measurements. They can be found most everywhere you get tools under $20. Amazon shows $6 - $40, plastic vs metal.

The metal ones are worth the little bit extra

Just picked one up myself $20 at Harbor Freight.

Hi again fellas.

Finished the rebuild and it now looks sweet, however I have one problem. Fuel is creeping out from the grommet on the fuel tank plus the tank looks quite pressurised and removing the cap I can see the fuel is swishing about quite violently. It looks like it's coming from the actual grommet edges and not where the fuel hoses go in. I have the 3rd breather hose mod so I'm at a loose end as to what to do now.

A new grommet is proving extremely difficult to source in the UK unless I want to buy a new tank as well. Plus I don't want to change the grommet and find I still have the same problem. Any thoughts?
 
Thanks a lot for that, going to order one now. Brass fittings already in place so just the basic kit I need. I envy you guys in the US, the UK is miles behind with support for RC cars.

Aus is only just starting to get a few Redcat parts too

We have a seller in the UK that does Redcat/DDM parts but they are never in stock so I think he orders them from the states and adds on a few quid for profit.

Out of stock is pretty common here too

I think they wait til they get a few orders then buy the parts in
