I am just getting into the 5th scale scene. I love monster trucks and wanted to know what made Redcat MT/ MT Pro owners chose Redcats over the FG Monster trucks? I'm leaning 95% to the MT. Money is not an issue in making my choice. Thanks for the help.

For me, it was my first 5th scale and I didn't want to spend too much on something I wasn't sure if I'd like or not. The FG back then was expensive, and I was able to get a Redcat MT for $800+ ARR. Now you can get the FG for $800+ ARR. Honestly, if I had to choose again, I'd go with the FG. Not that I'm not happy with the MT, I like it and I have tons of fun with it. FG is proven, they've been around forever, and they come with Zenoah engines. What's not to like?

I'm from across the pond - UK and started with an FG then spent a lot of money shipping a redcat MT over as they weren't for sale here.

The FG design is over 20 years old now, so certainly well proven and little changed, they are tough buggers and parts are plentiful and cheap (well here they are anyway), the FG does have niggly problems too though that the engine mesh needs to b set quite often even if you upgrade to alloy engine mounts, the screws pull out of the front hubs due to plastic wear so they need upgrading to alloy, you can cable tie the upper and lower suspension arms together so they move up n down in unison and this slows the plastic wearing but It's no cure, they rattle themselves silly and I was forever losing screws even when thread locked in. Most second hand FG'S will b 2wd so they love to doughnut !! Good job as steering abit hit n miss plus the brakes are some what elusive saying all that though the zenoth 26cc is fantastic, fast and reliable and i loved my FG bug but looking back it was abit clunky. The 4wd version is belt driven and from all accounts works very well ..... surprisingly.

The best petrol RC we get over here is the MCD they do the race runner which is a 4wd buggy but also a monster truck, we also have the FTX punisher (buggy) and destroyer (truck) which I believe are Nutechs over there, these have being proven to b reliable, easy to work on and generally a good 1/5 basher.

So in answer to ya question, I think I'd say go for the redcat

Just remember ALL 1/5's need abit of modding upgrading out of the box to make then that little bit more reliable and bash proof :)
