That is awesome. It moves like an 10th scale. The clutch really launches it. It will be interesting to see it with some better tires and hook up!

This morning I made a cowl to flow air over the motor. I used a coffee can that I cut to fit. It's glued and ziptied in place. I hope it works!

Cool, it should help.

It looks a little ghetto but I couldn't find any of my RC pitstop stickers to put on it. If you're there tonight can you bring some, I'll put them on :)

Last night's first track outing went really well, I couldn't have asked for much more. I only got to run it twice b/c I would take 2 hours to charge the batteries from my car's battery. I knew this would be the case until I got a hi-powered charger or another set of batteries. That'll be another discussion.

I showed up a little early b/c I wanted to run on the track by itself so I could temps the batteries, esc, and motor often. The track was also very wet at this point and the 3rd lap I drove it straight through a mud puddle b/c I didn't see it there. I should mention this was the first time for me driving on this track and 1/5th scale. After the mud puddle the car was completely covered in mud, it probably weighed 5 lbs more.

The first running I temp'd after 2 laps, 6, laps, 14 laps, and 26 laps. The batteries ran cool, the esc was around 120ish and the motor go to 170. The motor looks to be rated at 210F but I'd like to try and keep that thing around 150-160F. So there is some work there. Aside from that concern the car drove great. It is very well planted and doesn't seem tippy at all. I could throw it into the turns w/o much concern for rolling and jumping was very easy to manage w/ all the power. Nothing broke and just a few stock screws fell out or loosened up. I need to loctite the stock screws. All the screws that were part of my fabrication stayed put. My runtime was 18mins and I put 6A back into the packs. So I should be able to get 20mins of heavy running in on a charge.

The second run I tried to run w/ the rest of the Losi's but there's a small window of opportunity. The losi's spend a lot of time being worked on while I stand around waiting for batteries to charger. I actually pulled my packs off the charger early to try and get in on the action but after 5 mins of getting my batteries in there were only 3 trucks left on the track. I managed to race one losi for about 3 laps before it retired too. I managed to catch the losi and make a pass. It was nice to see the DR running out there w/ another truck. After that I had the track to myself and just let the DR fly. I wasn't concerned about temps too much and I wanted to really hammer on it to see if everything would hold up. I took 2 really good tumbles and nothing broke and the car kept on moving. I was pretty impressed. The only issue we had was a pebble, dirt, or something got caught in the clutch bell and brought the car to a skidding halt. I thought for sure we broke something but after moving the car back and forth it freed up. Again, the car was easy to drive and just a blast to hear it go down the track.

I got the chance to meet RCDad which was great and I happily put his RC Pit Stop sticker on it. Once I clean the body up I'll put more on. I know he had the video camera but I'm not sure if he got any shots. But it was nice to chat w/ him and I hope to be at FF more often with it.

The next changes will be to 1. protect the receiver, it got covered in mud just being glued to the chassis 2. make a motor heat sink or something to cool it more, I'm not sure the cowl did much 3. try to reduce the weight to help w/ runtimes/heat 4. decide on getting more battery packs or a hi-powered charger/supply to charge the packs faster.

All in all, the project turned out great and the car rocked!!!

Me too, I'm hoping RCDad grab some.

Right now I'm thinking about selling my hyperion charger and other items to cover the cost of a PowerLab charger. I'm also thinking about how to get this thing under 30lbs.

This DR was fun to watch! The fact that it's electric and is running the clutch and gears makes it sound soooo different! There were lots of lookers to say the least!

It held its own and handled very nice.
