I was actually surprised how strong that clutch grabs. It easily spins all for tires instantly. I'm a little nervous the gearing is too high b/c it seems faster than I thought it would be on 5s and I'm really hoping to run 10s.

Anyone know if there are lower (steel) gear sets for these?

Your in Phoenix somewhere correct? I should have a set laying around if you want to try them out. I don't need them anymore.

I was surprised how well that clutch grabs. I don't have any way of comparing it to the gas engine but from what I saw at the track, this motor as more bottom end torque. Again I'm just speculating, I'll know better when I can actually get this to the track and compare it to the other cars.

FYI, I'm going to be putting the stock 30cc motor up for sale. I do not have permissions on the 'for sale' sections to create a thread so I'm going to list it on our favorite auction site.

Anyone know anything about batteries in here? I realize I might need to visit a different thread but I'm starting to worry about run times. I just ran 6s on not-so-fully charged batteries and I'm pretty sure I only got about 5 mins.

So my original plan was to get 2x5s 5000mah packs that are 40c. That would be 200amps of current. Those two batteries would cost just as much as 4x5s 4000mah packs that are also 40c. But the the lower cost packs would only yield 160amps. But since I have twice as many I can run 2 in series x 2 in parallel. That would give me 320amps of current and 8000mah. I'm hoping that gets me to about 20-30mins of runtime. Anyone have any insight on this topic or another forum I can check out for this info?

I'll keep an eye out. :D

I run 2 turnigy 5000mah 6s 45~90c parallel in my XBE. That gets me 25-30 minutes.
So you're running 10Ah on 6s to get 25mins. I'm pretty sure the XBE is quite a bit lighter than the dune runner and the drivetrain might be a bit smoother too.

I founds some 8Ah 6s packs that I could run in series to get 12s at 8Ah but it'll be a tight fit. I might have to remove the radio box and other things to get those to fit.

You are correct the XBE is a good 5lbs lighter. Drivetrain is also more efficient. No change of rotating direction with a center diff.

You and me both.

I just ordered some batteries. They are 8000mah 6s x 2. I'll probably have to remove the radio box to get the second battery to fit. The 1st battery should fit just fine on the right side of the driveshaft just behind the servos. I'll need to build battery boxes with straps to hold these in place. The batteries will have to be fully supported b/c they are soft packs.

The esc has been stuck in tracking-limbo in New York (ISC) for 6 days now. I'm not sure when that'll show up.

And I'm still figuring out how to brace the rear shock tower. It flexes the chassis too much now that the gas motor isn't in there to brace the back of the chassis to the center.

So there's quite a bit of fabrication to do yet.

Yesterday when I was running I was experiencing some cogging and glitching. I thought it was the batteries being drained after 5 mins of running. But it turns out the bec in the esc just wasn't happy w/ the setup. So I disconnected it and now run the servos/receiver on their own nimh 6v pack. The esc is happier and the car runs great. Everything is under 120F and it's 100F outside right now.

I also installed the lower gear ratio (thanks RCDAD) and this definitely makes the motor seem like it's barely even trying. I'm currently running 6s 5000 mah and so far I have 15mins of runtime on the packs and they don't appear to be fading at all. So I probably don't need 8000mah but who's going to complain about additional runtime.

I then hooked the gps up to the car. It's max speed is 17mph w/ half spent batteries so on 12s I suspect we'll be well over 30mph which I think is good. When I race I like to be a little slow on the straight in favor of more control in the turns.

Nice temps for sure. How long are the races you are going too enter? 30 minute run times would be ideal in any case. If your at 100amps and 44.4volts you should have like 6hp, I'm guessing you knew that but for every one else wondering.
