Today I finished putting together my first Ram, today I will break in the engine... If it ever stops raining that is... :(

I used (2) Hitec 5745 servos for steering, and one Hobbico servo that I had laying around for throttle/Brake... I will change that tomorrow after I purchase another Hitec.

For engine I bought a Oneills Brothers Racing 30.5 ported and machined, here is a list of the what was done to this engine:

1. Resurfaced intake port

2. Enlarged and resurfaced exhaust port

3. Case porting

4. Reshaped/Resurfaced/Enlarged transfers ports

5. Matched transfer ports to cases

6. New Gaskets

7. New C-Clips

For exhaust I have a Dom side pipe installed.

Hope you guys like it!. :D

One last pic.. of the engine...

ya man. drop that shell down some. it looks to pretty to crack on the first roll over.. looks great tho. when we gona get some vid of the beast in action. just don't get it dirty!!

Well, la dee dah...... :D ........so your engine cost more than my truck! BRAT!!!.....love that paint job......and that powerplant is going to shred every piece of drivetrain it can get to........I envy you! Have fun with her!

Thanks for the kind words!...

Engine break in was today, everything went smooth. Ran the engine 10 minutes and then let it cool down for 20 minutes, did this 6 times for about 1 tank and a half. Never going beyond half throttle.

I used the stock gearing 25/35, I´ll try with 29/31 tomorrow.

Tomorrow it is going to be WOT time!.

Gas tank cap mod is definitely needed. After using half of the gas in the tank, the engine was bogging and didn´t want to start... The solution was simple, unscrew the gas cap and release the negative pressure in the tank, problem solved.

BTW, thanks for the recommendation, I will drop the body, I just liked how it looked like that.

oh ya. no doubt the body looks great all jacked up. its a shame they don't last long, but what should we expect? they weigh 37lbs.. the mt is pretty stable, but very unpredictable in mid flight

I weighed mine yesterday w/the 2lb Asgard and Desperado/Excavator combo, full tank and she weighed a cool 33lbs!

True, this thing is heavy... One time at the beach, my Baja didnt want to start and I had to carry it walking in the sand thinking that was the worst thing ever... if the RAM quits on me at the beach I probably just leave it there  :DGearing 29/31 is ready for testing today. Good thing I changed the gears cause I had the shaft of gear D come loose because I had a bolt that locks it in place gone. Found a screw that fit and made a locking bolt with that... seems to be holding well.

Everyone says to get a leash. Last time I broke a steering mount.......I said "not a problem" as I began to take off my belt, the dirtbikers were like "what the F#@$".....as I wrapped it around the front bumper and started dragging her away!

Thanks Croozer, glad you liked it...Using this 30.5cc ported ONB engine with 29/31 gearing is not what I want. The MT has a very slow start, but after just a couple of feet the engine really kicks in and the MT flies!... but the slow start is just not for my taste... These tires are HUGE, I suppose that has something to do with it.Anyways, last night I changed the gearing again to 27/33. Also, I installed this foam on the body so that it can rest on top of the cage without having to lower the body too much... seems like a good idea.

Yesterday I tried the 27/33 setup but still I feel the low end is not strong enough... I know these are big tires but dam, I want to see them spinning from the launch not after the engine revs.

The engine is incredibly fast once it revs, I admit it is a rocket but from the start it is terribly slow...

Is there a harder Spring that 8,000RPM?... If I had a 10,000RPM sping maybe that would help allowing the engine to rev to where it is really powerfull before engaging.

Maybe a Lighter Cluch setup could also help...

Hey Kryptonite...

The Needles are in factory position, I called ONB to check.

LSN 1 1/4 turns open

HSP 1 1/2 turns open

Nothing I did could solve the problem of slow starts. I am using 27/33 gearing.

Anyway, I think I could fix this problem with higher RPM clutch engagement so I had ALVASPEED call DDM and ask about the Lauterbacher clutch. According to Brad at DDM the Lauterbacher have a 9500RPM maximum adjustment. I think that is perfect for me so I ordered one, the 4 shoe offroad clutch.

Here is a video of the the Ramp in action... At the end of the video I had a small accident

Forgot to post the video, sorry... ;)

You can hear the engine ripping really good on high RPM but lagging brutally on start...

Are you mixing fuel/oil 25:1 (the manual is incorrect at 40:1 or whatever it says)? You can lean out H/L from 1.5/1.25 a few hours but do it with a clean air filter. Unlike electric there will always be some bog on the low end that will only be more noticeable with bigger gears/bigger tires. Try the stock gearing of 25/35. Also if you installed your own head kit is the circle/triangle pointed towards the exhaust? Do you run 91 or higher octane? What shape are your clutch shoes in?

Hey Huey,

I using 25:1 fuel to oil. I bought this engine built from Oneill Brothers, haven´t done anything to it. Fuel Octane is 95, and clutch shoes are new.

This engine has used about 3 tanks of fuel only.

Stock gearing definitely helps on the starting but then when it hits high RPM it feels to restricted.

Besides the Lauterbacher 4 shoe clutch, I also bought a lighter Flywheel.

That is why I think that at 9500 RPMs the engine will be ready to engage without boggin like it does now.

I remember when I first changed the spring on my baja from 6,000 to 8,000RPMs, it is a very noticeable difference what those 2,000 RPM does. I figure 1500RPM will also make a huge difference.

Lets hope it does. :D

if your running stock settings.. you need to lean it out. its running too rich at stock settings. if you pull the plug its probly black and cakes with oil. as far as the clutch goes, im running a stock 6k spring with a 28.5 and an x-can. im faster then you off the line. the clutch is great, but if your out of tune its not going to do much. just simply turn the low speed needle in till it takes off. go in 1/8 turn increments.. THEN put the clutch and fly wheel on. you have the largest motor they build.. use it.

just watched vid.. you should probly get some extra plugs to, couse that one wont last long
