need help esp head kit

Hi guys so this is my problem i got the esp 30.5 head kit for my DR and i have the 990 carb on it to but i can't get it to run. well i can get it to run but the carb needles have to be like all the way out and the throttle wide open but then dies has anyone had this problem before. or know what is going on thanks guys

Sounds like an air leak.

if its not an air leak- the needles stuck on the 990- the fuel needle underneath the fuel bulb plate.

Most likely an air leak behind the carb.

Hi did you pull the fly wheel and see if the key has moved or the key way opened up? It might be a timing thing or see if the magnets in the flywheels are still pulling strong.

no i have not done that yet i will try that but it run fine before i did the head kit so i don't know whats going on

Head gasket leak, carb gasket leak or carb itself, what colos is spark plug?

its clean it is a new plug cant get it to run now

Did you try it with the stock carb?

Reset the carb to stock settings.

Do a piston high check and see what you got for squish clearance,Your rod might be bent and your piston might not be getting to TDC. we had this happen in a boat and this is what we came up with the rod had a curve in it and piston was not hitting TDC.

The best way i have found was to get a measurement with the piston in hand and push it all the way up the bore with no ring on the piston.Then put the engine all together and take more measurements,and see what you got for your total squish there is a # that it's going to work and a # that is not.Your gasket might be to think to get what is required or you rod might be bend.I just use a caliper with the rod end down the spark plug hole.
