OK so I got the GPM racing hop up kit and the threads for the servo saver where the steering draglink bolts to are threaded for fine thread and the drag link hardware is a coarse thread. I was just going to run a metric coarse thread tap through the steering servo saver threads but have no idea where to check the size and thread pitch. I'm pretty sure its an M4 just not sure the thread pitch. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I had a pair of calipers switchable from metric and same but am unable to find it. I checked the manual and parts listing from losi.com and they don't have it listed. Thank you.
Can you post a pic of exactly where you need measured? I could be wrong and I will check tomorrow but I believe small metric doesn't give an option for fine or coarse threads. I think the only option for 4mm is .75 pitch but I will check tomorrow.
I believe K5 is right...one other option that I went with is a metric bolt gauge that measures both diameter and thread pitch. I got so tired of dealing with metric and standard bolts and screws of varying sizes and pitches in firearms that I spent the money for one. It even has a bunch of slots around the edges that even tells you what size wrench to use. If you're interested, I can look up the model number.
The only 4mm thread I have come across is .7 pitch. I get my screws from the local Ace hardware and I haven't seen any other pitch. If in doubt the pitch is the distance from the crown of one thread to the next in millimeters. It is kind of a pain to measure but they make thread pitch gauges that slip over/into the threads to make it easier. A tool like Jaygreig said is also handy. I'm not sure but can you reuse your hardware? I wonder if the screws on the GPM kit aren't an American thread that is just slightly oversized in case a person stripped the plastic on the servo saver. Oh with calipers a 4mm screw will measure close to that, I think they come in a little under. Sorry for poor pics but you get the idea.
Well honestly the gpm hop up kit was beautifully matched. The problem is, the servo savers. Everything else either came with new hardware or the original hardware worked on it. The bolts that hold the steering turnbuckles are fine thread but they threaded the steering draglink with the same size thread as the turnbuckles. They should have been coarse threaded. I think M5 coarse is the right size actually. But I'm just not sure.
On the drag link bar into the plastic bellcrank they are 5mm x .8 pitch. There is a 5mm x.9 pitch thread in my tap set, so there is a fine and coarse thread. I would play it safe and get the right screws from a hardware store or call GPM and see what they say. On a brighter note I didn't realize on the stock set up they just have bushings. Mine are now freshly greased
Well gentlemens and lady's I figured it out, I know it's been some time. It is a #10-24 thread. I live in butt f*** north dakota, the only place of four different stores that had the right tap was Napa auto parts. I had already ordered the M5 coarse thread tap and it was clearly wrong when I put the bolt up to it before I grabbed my Dewalt drill and went to town. GPM needs to fix this issue or I will not buy anymore hop up parts from em. It's odd that 99% of the friggin bolts on the car are metric, two flippin bolts are SAE, the steering draglink bolts. Thanks for the help and here is a picture of my build.
