buggy will not start. last time it ran it was running but sounded like it wanted to bog down and shut off a couple times. I took it out today and nothing, plug is firing took it out and tested it. Good compression. choke on, choke off, primed it, batteries charged, got gas in it, and nothing. tried to richin it. tried to lean it, and still nothing, all nuts and bolts are tight and secure. Don't know what else to do. I haave a couple theories not sure though: Maybe Its flooded? if so How do I unflood it? #2 maybe need to replace old carb with a new carb? or #3 clutch is broke? but don't know if that will keep it from starting?

try to turn the needles all the way closed and try to start the baja. but be ready to hit the kill switch if it start because it will rev up very lean. that will help let you know if it was flooded.then set it back to factory settings and tune from there. if that doesn't work then maybe your clutch spring is broke so try to start it with the wheels off the ground. if the wheels spin when you are trying to start it then you broke a spring. try those and let us know.it could be alot of things but i would start with those

well I took the buggy out again today and turned the needles all the way closed and still no start. The wheels are not turning when trying to start it so clutch spring is not broke. I don't know:mad::(

are you getting fuel out of the exhaust pipe?try flipping it around and see if so,could be a flooding issue, try pinching the fuel line and try to start it,
try that out if its flooding it should start or at least you should get some putter from it.
if by chance any of that works then you have a carb issue,

Haven't been dripping fuel out of exhaust but I do smell a lot of gas when trying to start it. That is what lead me to my first conclusion of it possibly being flooded. I will try pinching the fuel line and see what happens. I'll let ya know.

Once again no luck:mad: pinched the fuel line and still nothing. So now I'm guessing a carb issue? Thinking about tearing it down and going with new carb, new clutch, and while im at it putting in a two speed. then if it doesn't want to start taking a sledge hammer to it. Much thanks to those who offered help and advice I just don't get what could have went wrong.

you say it has spark? have you tried it again? make sure you got a clean bright spark,
at some point you should of gotten some slight smoke from pipe or burn smell if you did have a good spark

Yeah got plenty of spark took it out a tested it a few times even put a new ngk plug in it and still nothing haven't seen any smoke or smelled any burn smell but do smell alot of gas when trying to start it.

you got spark, and gas,and your smelling gas,
by chance did you disassemble the engine for any reason?
take the head off?
trying to eliminate some things, but keep coing back to the carb, carb fuel lines in the correct ports? vent is the top line fuel supply is under the carb

Naw never disasembled it. However, after running it last I did put a roto start on it which btw is falling apart, the face plate which is bout the size of a quarter fell off which was only held on by a little glue don't know if that would keep it from starting? and just now the inner piston or the roto start itself just came out the hole with the bit. So now I'm adding a new pull start to my list. I was planning on buying a t1000 next but not comfortable doing so untill I get this one running again.

if you are smelling gas when trying to start it i would say it is flooded. some times it is a pain to get it started when it is flooded.it took me a long time when mine got flooded and i thought the carb or the engine was messed up. i tried taking the plug out and pulling the pull start, turning it upside down but closing the low speed needle worked for me but it took alot of pulls until it even sputtered. that was a long time ago and since then it runs great. i would put your pull start back on and try it again before you spend a bunch of money.

FESCUE101 Thanks for the info It is going to be a couple weeks before I can get a new carb so I will keep trying

i think the 668 has no internal pump and has a choke and the 998 has the internal pump and no choke. but i have heard that the carbs with the internal pumps are a little more finicky.

thats true will take some pulls to get it to sputter,if your flooding, pinch that line closed don't be afraid to squish the line closed, the most that can happen is the line gets a tear but that can be replaced easily

Few drops of fuel inside the head should fire that up. Hopefully that solves. I have an 813 walbro carb and works great. Two speed? I heard bad things and experience bad, broken shaft(pricey), broken center diff gears and so on.. Just make sure u don't buy the ones from china

I'm starting to think I shouldn't even be in this hobby. as I was removing the roto start to put the pull start back on a big chunk of the crankcase came off with it. so now theres a big hole in the side of the engine:mad: I swear I didn't take the hammer to it yet. I can't be to upset cause I'm not ready to give up on it and it gives me the opportunity to get to know my buggy better, Also working on them is half the fun:D Im just going to tear it down and put a 26cc hpi engine with walbro carb and 8,000rpm clutch and never look back:cool:
