Does anyone know why gas would be dripping out of the front of my carb where the air filter goes?

Sounds like your tank is getting pressurized and it's pushing fuel into the carb. Make sure the vent hole in your gas cap is clean. If you're running in hot weather, loosen up the cap a bit so that pressure can escape. It's normal for a little fuel to find it's way into the air filter, but not so much that it's dripping out.
