i kind of want to buy a tig and some tube and make me a cage. is anyone here fabricating their own cage? I have some questions, 1. where to get some tubing 2. what kind of tubing? i'm pretty sure i can find a tube bender that can do the job. anything else i should know?

Mcmaster Carr is a great place to get any type of tubing you want. Im building another cage for mine out of that 5/16 .065 wall chromoly tubing. The first one I built was out of 3/8 solid aluminum.

thanks, didn't like the aluminum? just saying tube might kink if you try to have to much of a bend in it...

No I had no problem at all with the aluminum bending, welding or how it performed. Just wanted to build a different style cage.

3/8" OD x .049" walled 4130 chromoly is what we've been using with good luck. It's strength vs weight vs cost is going to be as good as it gets. It was indestructable on a heavy TT so 5/16" OD with 1/4" bracing would be fine if your running a lighter XT/XB.Here's some cages I built from the 3/8". It's not so thick where it looks bulky but thick enough to look like it's not gonna fold on ya.
