I'm wanting to get into the 1/5 scale. Ive done RC in the past, but Ive always wanted to do 1/5 scale. I've kinda narrowed it down to the two I'm looking at, but I'm not sure which is the better choice..

I know the obvious first note to make is the Rovan is more expensive, but Im wondering if its worth the extra? Ive got plenty of room to run it, so thats not a concern.. I was looking at a baja 5b clone with a 30.5cc, but Ive read about people having issues out of them.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Honestly I'd stay away from the aluminum parts. Get the nylon one. the nylon would be more forgiving. I got the 002 rev 2 speed & upgraded all the arms to rpm & next I' m ordering the kraken x2 chassis since I bent & cracked my main chassis.

Out of the two, i'd get the truck...you can always sell the T bits for approx $150 if not more and convert to the B if you don't like how the T looks later..

Plus as said stay away from the Alloy versions, the alloy arms wear quickly around the pins and balls...

thanks for the welcome :)

re the wearing around the aluminium balls, i had a closer look at the pics and they look to have replaceable plastic ball joint bits

Yea Ive heard about the rule with aluminum parts.. I figure I'll go with the truck.. Just an FYI I contacted the seller "Rovanusa" and he notified me that theres a chance he will only have these for a few more weeks..

Screw it, I ordered the aluminium thing, KM 2.0EX 30.5cc

It worked out much cheaper then I could get the nylon one for due to my location.
It worked out much cheaper then i could get the normal 2.0 for from ebay for infact.

My thinking is, I would rather remove a couple of aluminium bits and replace with plastic if required rather then the other way around.
That way i have all the aluminium shock braces etc, the alu bits that are actually good/helpful, and i can put on cheaper plastic arms or whatever i need to if needed.
Im sure it works out cheaper that way

I will let you all know how I get on!

I'm sure you'll enjoy whichever you had choose.

I'd get a new pull start ready as the km ones are the worst i've ever had...as you say replace when needed...

I would definitely start with rpm arms off the bat tho. Call it preventative maintenance. Just be prepared to do a little slight modification to get them to work with the stock hinge pins & don't hit anything head on or you will bend & or crack the main chassis plate like I did when I lost a battle with a tree at low speed. these things are heavy & have a lot of momentum, even at low speeds.

Looking forward to receiving it!
Have been reading up on breaking in the motor.
At this point I think im going to take the warm it up, don't go over thalf throttle for 5 mins, then beat the crap out of it approach lol. Should be interesting.
Anyone know if I can bind my spektrum dx6i heli transmitter to the KM - or will i need to get an aviation receiver?

i am also thinking about that, but my decision was between the rovan buggy and the km buggy, personally i am going for the 30.5cc km buggy, but if i see some good facts i might go with rovan instead.

not sure why anyone would pay this much for cheaper quality machines, why not go the extra mile and if it's a baja you want get a good NAME = HPI

In the long run you are going to replace parts for whatever reason so might as well go with what is cheaper. I mean look at me. Bought a km 002 rev 2 speed for around $750. already replaced the a arms right off the bat before they even broke with rpm parts, cost around $85 for the complete set. Replacing the main chassis with a kraken x2, cf front top plate, rpm rear bumper bracket & bought new rpm front bumper, cost about $205 but these parts were parts I had already planned on replacing. so now I have a total of about $1040 in this thing so far which is about what an hpi baja 5b would cost by itself except mine for the same price is a hello of a lot stronger than the hpi is. money wise its smarter to buy the cheaper clone if you plan on doing lots of upgrades anyway. pretty soon my km baja won't have any stock parts on it anymore & will no longer be a km baja. its just a base platform to start with.

hey guys, my KM 2.0 ex just arrived!
im now sitting at work impaitently waiting to go home so I can have a play with it!
it looks very nice, its not as heavy as i was expecting.
