hi guys.

i was out today and played in snow with my mt. after 5mins i noticed that the right-rear wheel wasnt spinning. so i took a look at it and saw that the pin in the dogbone was cracked.

i went to the store there i bought the car and bought a pair of new dogbones(like 30 bucks, parts are expensive here in sweden). when i was home installing the new dogbone i noticed that the dogbones i bought was the "ordinary one". my car had the "steel one".

what ever when i saw that i couldnt install them, i took a look on the other dogbones on the car and noticed that 2 other had also cracked.

im gonna try to build my own pins. but i would like to know what you guys would do. i still cannot understand why the pins cracked. i have used this car for like 1 and 1/4 tank.

Check to see if you can take out the pins from the new dogbones and use them.If you can make sure you use locktite on the set screw when reassembling.

What is hard? The set screw or the pin?

Another much cheaper option than buying new dogbones, would be to use the shank portion of a drill bit cut to the right length that has the same diameter as the pin for the dogbones. Many people have used that option in a pinch when they didnt want to deal with waiting on parts. In almost all cases drill bits are hardened steel, so it ends up being a mod that is better and stronger than the stock pins, and inexpensive to boot.

Go to Fastenal or some other hardware type place and buy some 4x20mm dowel pins. If I remember right thats the size you need.

Also,I have used arc welding rods.I scraped off the flux and cut it into pieces the length of the pins and used my dremel tool to make a notch for the set screw, one rod makes a lot of pins so you would have tons of spares at hand.I think it was a 4mm 7018 rod which is hard and even cheaper.

This happens alot on CVD's when the pin start coming out on one side and disengages from the housing on the other side. All the torque goes to one side of the pin and it snaps just like that (small and large piece). Your lucky you didn't break the bell housing on the axle end. Red locktite should fix the problem.

thanks guys. im gonna make my own pins. thats the best option. the store wants 120bucks for the sets of 4 wheel axles and 4 dogbones, because i have to replace 3 of them.

*4 wheel axles because the dogbones on the store are not for the axles on my car. if i want the same on my car it would cost 180bucks :( tooo expensive. that because i also have a 1:8 cheap-truck :) .

I run in the snow and cold and I broke a bunch of pins, I feel your pain brother !!

I did some quick and dirty repairs with coat hanger wire but it won't last forever. Once I got new pins, I locked them in and taped them around with tuck tape, (the red stuff), and I havn't lost one since. THose pins seem to really not like the cold. I think possibly the key is to keep them from moving, (tape them in place). Maybe if there's play with the combination of cold, they break. Can't say for sure but that's my experience with them. Good luck
