nice one! yeah, sounds like things need tweeking there a little eh, seems to stop increasing its revs. what gearing are you running on it?

Yeah there is no top end and hardly any bottom torque. I messed around with the tunning last week before i realised the head gasket had gone !!

Gearing is 22 / 42 spur and 14 / 48 lay/diff.

Will have more time to tune properly on saturday, will take it back to factory and start again, im not sure what or how far i was tuning last week :w00t:

I've always wondered about my gearing, as sometimes i run Baja wheels, and its like shes on a rocket

strewth mate! that's high end gearing for a monster :w00t:
have you run it on a smooth surface and compared the difference? not sure what mods are done to the engine but it was sounding like the gearing was too long for the amount of time you controlled the throttle opening, perhaps it wasn't having long enough to get up to its geared speed :o

i had an FG buggy that i made a few years back, i fitted high gearing, it had a ported 26cc too and it still struggled for a little while to get up to speed, it just didn't have the torque to propel the buggy effectively enough. but when it did hit the powerband - WOO-HOOO!!.... then i'd have to brake and turn around the bend :( i did have a play with the tuning but could never better it so i put shorter legs back on it and it was fine again. hope you don't have to mess with it too much! :)

jeez you don't want it sounding like an XRC!

that is indeed very tall gearing! max id got is 16/46 instead of the stock 14/48, that would be same gearing as the FG baja.

nice vid though and nice bash spot, makes me miss my MB even more now

Worst ever ever ? Or just worst ? Lol. Yeah she sounds bad. I'm normally on loose gravel. And she does fly when on the straight. Standard 26cc engine with stock exhaust.
What gearing would suggest on the spur in stead of what I'm running to have more torque ?

Leave the gearing if you like the top end, but if you do leave it the way it is, put a pipe on it. A JetPro or a Loud ass DDM Dom pipe will totally transform that truck!

If it were mine, I would look for a RN Fat power pipe and run the stock 16/48 pin and spur, but I would switch to a 16 on the layshaft and keep the stock 48 for the ring gear.

I do want a DDM pipe. Its on the list but I've no funds until the summer (getting married in May so been banned from spending lol )
16/48 seems a big difference to my 22/42. I'm not sure how I came up with that combo, might even be what I had at the time and never thought about it. If I change to what your suggesting will it give me a better torque from sstandstill ? I do have 2 small plastic gears in my pit box, not sure what they are though. Will look at the weekend.
Cheerss for the heads up

The stock gear and a good pipe will have it doing wheelies to the point of being annoying!

Stock gears with the stock can won't be that exciting, but it will Definitely be better than what you have by far!

The gears you are running are for on roads with little street tires!

Just remember the spur and pinion have to be changed together and must equal a total of 64 teeth. 16/48 18/46 20/44

I would go with a 16/48... That's the stock gear ratio and it seems to be about the best all around gear, plus your clutch shoes will thank you.

i'm running 19/44 with a 16tooth layshaft gear in my MB, and that's got a ported 26cc engine, with a jetpro!! it's rapid!! got a great top end and the acceleration is fantastic, so much so i had to fit 4WD to it. it's now even more mental :w00t:

off the line is immediate traction and it can be drifted lovely on the track :)

depends on what mods you've done mate should determine what gearing you're gonna fit. the more torque produced by the engine, achieved by changing things such as exhaust, porting, carb and so on, will increase the engines' capability to have longer gearing, you can also fit an 8000rpm clutch spring too for better off the line punch :)

Its a standard 26cc engine. No mods, even has standard exhaust. Looking to get a DDM in the summer though. 4wd with all that power does sound mental lol
Will start with changing the gears on pin and spur. Will see what I've got in my box.
Never really thought about it before lol. I took them of too service / fix what ever and just put them back on after. Lol

oh, forgot to say, i'm running the normal marder/leopard sized wheels too on my MB, in effect it's "gearing" has been reduced slightly, so again the engine doesn't have to work as hard to move them in comparison to the monster wheels (though i do miss them and wish i'd never sold em now) :(

yeah start with the pinion n spur and see what difference there is. if it behaves normally and revs up its range, you know tuning isn't much of an issue. and by fitting a red clutch spring (they're normally 8000rpm cut in) you'll be up heading towards the powerband of the engine before the car even moves, so off the line (with slightly higher gearing) will still give you that instant go adn won't wear ya clutch out so quick!! but, at the end of the day, higher gearing does demand mods in support. but that's all part of the fun :D

I do notice the difference when i running my Baja wheels on gravel / tarmac its so much quicker ! never really thought about changing the gears when putting the monster wheels on
Still at least ive learn't something today :) Cheers fellas.

Now i can't wait till i get a decent pipe of some sort but that's months away :( lol

have a look on ebay! there's all sorts of bargains on there to be had, it doesn't have to be brand new either.. ;)

Yeah found a couple of cheap ones for now 16/48 will leave the diff at 14 for the time being.
Got myself a red clutch spring too, so hopefully they'll come in time for the weekend

nice goin' mate, well done. see any exhausts? i'd leave out the red spring for now, until you've modded the engine a little more that is.

Not looking for exhausts until the summer, cant afford that just yet, got a wedding to save/pay for in may so all non essential parts for toys has to wait lol

bagged me a 16T, :D but no 48T just yet
there is one that ends at 9pm which is posted as a 48T but the part number is for a 46T ! lol
