I need to get Meli a new air cleaner for her Mutilator... The stocker is like what's on a weedwacker.. What do you guys recommend? I was thinking an FG design, but 40 bucks is a little steep for some foam and a piece of plastic.

Any ideas? :helpsmilie:

Also thinking about a QUIET pipe, maybe like the 3 piece dinner, oops, 3 piece FG pipe.. Are their any companies that cloned the pipe too? Something similar but, Cheap!!

Run the stock one, it is as quiet and cheap as you'll find. I heard the HPI 5t muffler is supposed to be great. Whether it would work is a different story since it would be facing forward instead of back.

Right now it has an Xcan on it, I haven't received the Mutt yet, but I know the Xcans are loud...

What's the performance gain from the Xcan?

Csp, Thanks for the link, I was looking at that one a few mins ago. I think I am going to order it.

X-Can is loud as hell. Bottom end is what you'll gain from it. You might be able to stifle the sound a bit by adding some silicone tubing (http://www.davesmotors.com/s.nl/c.885035/n.1/it.A/id.4556/.f) or maybe garden hose or some other tubing. I had the one from my HPI Baja rigged up to my truck last summer for a couple weeks. I had to buy some copper elbows so the exhaust would blow out the side (due to the can being for the Baja). The silicone tubing seemed to help deaden the sound a bit.

I replaced the stock air filter on my FHMT with the Firehammer one in the link. It's a great setup.

I guess as long as it isn't too loud, I will leave it on there, if it helps bottom end.. Or I will toss the stock FG can and tube on it.. My neighbors are pricks! So I have to keep it pretty quiet, they complain about my FG with the JP silenced..

I just had 5 huge stumps ground out, so I have piles of fresh, new oak woodchips to play in! :celebrate: I can't wait for this Mutt to get here, so I have a "Playmate"

I would say the Xcan is around the DDM dom pipe. All other pipes besides stock and xcan will make you trim the body out.:(

The FH filter is pretty much the FG one but has an outer part that slips off. The total thickness is the same though.

In my neighborhood, my wife listens to neighbors barking dogs all day long. So when the neighbors are home, I love nothing more than to start up one of my 5th scales or nitro, and run it all up and down the street, in their yards just to piss them off. I love seeing windows close while I'm doing it and people peering out in hatred. You make me listen to your noise, you'll listen to mine, that's how I see it.

Your so right, my wife also hears dogs barking all day. I told her if anyone was to complain there would be a video recorder pointed at there home and the cops called on them. Pay back would not be good.
Also, I recruited my neighbor across the street and they have Baja's too now.

Trip, one more think I forgot. Take the stock blue metal deflector off some day and buy yourself and her a redneck to go over both of them. Make sure its the redneck for the FG's.

The X can is about the same Volume or Performance as the Dom?

Thanks for the pics! If I remove the aluminum case, to put a redneck on it, what will hold it all together? I know it sounds like a stupid question, but I don't have one in front of me, so I can't tell.

Yes, the only difference between the dtx and fg is the metal cover and the two piece filter on the dtx.

The performance is no where near the DDM but the sound on both is loud.

Is there a filter that has a micro-screen on the outside as a pre-filter?

On my Husqvarna chain saw the filter has a very fine mesh screen on the outside and a foam filter on the inside. After 20 years that engine is going strong as new. I think having a very clean air intake has a lot to do with the longevity of 2-stroke engines and those fine screens do a great job. The oil in the foam filter traps very little debris in this setup.

You can buy an Outerwears and put it over the filter, or use an old nylon.

I just ordered the Firehammer filter and some other misc parts. Thanks for the advice guys.

Some day don't forget the rednecks.

I don't think the redneck will work well on the Firehammer Air Filter. The metal piece screws down over the entire filter, holding it in place. If you took that off and just put on a redneck, it would fly off. The way around that may be to cut the blue piece into just a circle at the top so you can still use a screw to hold it in place.

The blue can is just a cover. There is a plastic end cap under it. Just like the FG.
