Hi all i took my new Km Baja out for it's first run tonight but i ran into a problem it doesn't seem to run freely making it hard to accelerate, i've checked the breaks not applied, any help much appreciated thanks Mark

go over the bearings and make sure theyre seated right and not misaligned, and if its just the rear not moving well, it might be the gear tooth gap too tight together also.

thanks for your advice i'll check those out tomorrow, it does seem that its just the rear not moving well, a friend came along with his newly owned Hpi Baja 5b in comparing his rolled freely & quitely & mine was quite tight & you could hear the gearing & what sounded like abit of rubbing.

Cheers for the link i looked high & low & couldn't find anything, ill have a play around with the gear plate & see if I can loosen it up abit, ill also check everything bearings etc look to be seated correctly, ideally I should of returned the car as it was brand new & this is my second problem but its so much hassle to return & at my cost i'd rather try & get my head round it myself with your guys help & build up some experience with the car along the way. Thanks

What is the best way of aligning these? Thanks

Hi I had the same problem with my km 3.0 30.5 baja they slap em together in factory and they don't QC every one. i solved the problem by rebuilding the complete rear end, it only takes one little thing to be miss aligned and you end up with the problem you have! a quick way to do this is to losen engine bolts and engine mount brackets give it a tweak until you get the correct mesh gap test it by turning the spur gear with your hand it should now turn easily now tighten everything making sure everything is square....... hope this helped you

That's of great help thanks ill get there in the end, I kinda expected a few problems like you say they've just been slapped together cheaply in factory & nothing aligned correctly, I couldn't get it to fire up to start with either & regapped the coil & starts flawlessly now. Cheers

Update, the clutch bell hole isn't central causing a buckled effect & i noticed the rear upper plate where it joins the spur gear mount is not straight so the gear plate will not fit, i'll try & put a pic up so you can see what im refering to, i've emailed the place i got it from asking for replacement parts.

I've corrected myself above I ment the clutch bell hole is not central & causing a buckle effect on the spur gear, hopefully its just these two parts I can see causing all the hassle.

Yes there top plate is quite angled how the gear plate was fitted I don't know, just hoping the dealer I purchased it from is decent enough to send me the replacement parts.

I think you'll find all km's are the same, i had the exact same problem, i bet you when u took out the top plate bolt it sprung forward and cocked it self this is because its under pressure reasemble by pushing down on the back to flex the rear chassis plate to install the bolt (top plate is ok don't touch) the way i fix the mesh problem was rebuilding the rear end
this fixed the mesh problem for me spur and drive gear now silky smooth with no binding, The other option is to get a smaller drive gear

Hope this helps

I wish i could come and help you out because really its a easy fix

mine was good out of the box rolled fine, and plate wasnt angled/cocked like that. since then tho, ive put in a split diff, and stuff, so alignment wasnt a issue when i did that upgrade. i do agree tho, that they slap these together and sometimes don't get stuff lined up perfectly. id do as mentioned and take it apart and rebuild it back, should fix alignment issues
