new mt and new to 1/5 scale. questions

i have just bought a new mt and ive done a ton of research about all the servos and everything else. can someone tell me about the battery hump pack. whats a good upgrade? how long does it take to charge and will i need a new charger? and how long will a charge last on stock vs say a 5000mah?


any info would be appreciated.
 
Twice as long with the 5000. You can get by with the stock charger, but with a better one, the charge time is just a fraction. I can do a full cycle (discharge and recharge) in about 1 hr on my 5000. That's with the charger set on 4 amps. The 5000 is a must if you plan to run any lights.
 
Yes you will diffidently want a better charger the charger included takes forever to charge the battery the battery usually last about 4 tanks with you running a full day and yes a 5000 will last twice as long. Welcome to the forum and enjoy the MT its alot of fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
thanks for the info. im really trying to learn everything to know about this rampage mt. i know a lot about engines but not much about electronics. is there any good place online to get a battery/charger combo or any brands do you recommend when buying either?

How often do you discharge and charge your batteries? I was asking because I have never discharged mine I thought that was for lipos? Thanks.
 
The nickel baised batteries can develop a memory after lots of partial charges or if left in storage. This means they will on longer take a full charge and won't discharge as long. Baisicly won't hold a full charge. I do a cycle about every few months or so. It's just cheap insurance. Doing a cycle will also help show if a battery pack will still hold a full charge. Once they hold less then 80% it's time to replace them. They can become unstable. A meltdown can ruin a good day.
