Hi all. I recently took a DBXL e 2.0 on a trade. The last RC car I had was 30 years ago. I’ve been reading about it and have questions on the upgrades mostly. I see the diff issue. I looked on Vitavon’s website but am really not clear which ones to buy. There’s two versions and they look completely different. In your experience:

What are the mandatory upgrades? The “if you don’t do this you’re a dumbass” upgrades.

What are the “hey you should really do this…” upgrades? Ya know, the ones where if you spend any decent time driving the car, you should do.

Finally, what upgrades that don’t fit the above categories do you recommend? Thank you and yes I’m aware I may have traded for a money pit.

Edit: forgot to add: the shocks feel awful. I press down on the car and it barely comes back up. Is that normal?

Mick,

Thank you for the reply. I’m having the same issue though with your thread. I’m very new to all this and don’t see any part numbers or anything. I will try and build a list. What I really need to know though, is what do you consider to be upgrades that are mandatory, nice to have, etc. If I build a list of upgrades after that, maybe someone on here can help me with what grease and such to buy. In a bit over my head

Other than diffs, front and rear, I've had no issues, besides batteries. Everything else has been more preventing problems. Vitavon parts are expensive but very well made and should last life of buggy. I literally got complete f/r diffs in parts from Vitavon. Spidergears, etc. and built and installed in a weekend. As far as diff housing, v1-v2, the v2 has the "squares " to hold
spider gears . I use a prepaid credit card to buy off internet, Vitavon doesn't accept it, but after emailing Vitavon the said buy them off ebay and that's how I get thier stuff. Takes about 10 days from China. They were quick with emailing me .

Mick,

In your opinion, should I just get the link below? Do I need to order any diff fluids or locktite? Sorry I'm new to this. My shocks feel like garbage. I push down on the buggy and it slowly comes back up. Did you have this issue?

Hello and welcome....

I am more active on the Arrma forum since I have those and the DBXL-E 2.0, and I get more feedback on Arrma's site faster. This is a good site, but it will be slower on large feedback responses

My build for my used DBXL-E 2.0 purchase:

I would say hold off on purchasing from that ebay link. Feel it out first..find your style of bash. I do agree this rig needs some upgrades. It is too heavy for simply bashing, which I have broken parts. I am not a beat the $hit person on my rigs, but it still broke certain items.

Losi could have:
  • Added the metal f/r chassis braces, I consider a must-have
  • Added the metal top plate on the front, connected to the front chassis
  • Diffs. I am very good at shimming and I did a damn good job of shimming before I did the first bash. The rear diff under heavy bashing could not always mesh and connect, and stops moving. There is too much flex, especially once it gets heated with all that plastic. To save some money. I did the Vitavon rear and ADU metal diff up front. So far, good...

Some added things, in my opinion, that make the refresh complete
  • DDM stiffer rear springs to keep the rear from sagging
  • Droop screw kit to keep the droop screws from digging into the chassis
  • ADU or this one center diff top plate to have no flex. I would also swap the center diff mount also
  • Optional, but I prefer metal hubs. Not required something I do to all by bashers
  • DDM sells beefier axles for this rig, but so far I have been good. If they break, this is a good option to look at along with the Vitavon here
  • The stock servo for this heavy is weak. Most all upgraded it. I even upgraded the servo plastic tray to a metal tray.

I have listed many things. My bashing and purchases above are based on issues I seen with my rigs and areas I needed to beef up—droops, flex, hubs, etc.

https://www.ddmracing.com/ is a good site for upgrading Losi parts.
