So, I was un happy with the factory radio that came with my MT ( mainly the feel of it ) so I upgraded.

I decided Spektrum because I liked where the LCD screen is placed and the Telemetry features. This unit is much lighter as it has 4 less batteries, feels nice and light.

My questions are; What is the Aux. port for on the reciever? What can it be used for really.. And should I upgrade to a LI-Po pack or are a good set of rechargeables ok?

i have a spektrum dx3s and use nimh rechareables in it.theyll last about 4 hrs on a full charge.just remember,if ya use the charge port on the radio to recharge em,the polarity is kinda reversed on the transmitter charge port.the outside edge is the positive, and the pin in the middle is negative.most charging cables are opposite.i just cut my wires and resoldered them backwards on a section of the wire.the telemetry reciever that comes with the units have really short range so be careful.the other receivers that arent telemetry capable have much better range.also, the aux port can be used for your power plug,or it can be used as a 3rd channel for your kll switch,i believe you set that up in the settings on the radio. like my dx3s,although ive found the telemetry to be rather useless and gimmiky, and ive had better range on almost every other 2.4ghz system ive used.the radio and all the different settings available are nice though.the only thing ergonomically i didnt like about the radio is the trigger seams a little too soft for my tastes.hope this helps, and enjoy it!!

Awesome post. I would have to say, one of the other reasons I like it is that it has the charging port on the transmitter. Thanks for the help, no manual for this thing in the box! I like how you can adjust the throw from 0-100% on the servos, like 100% throttle and 80% brake. I find it useful to prevent binding.

definitely,i always find the point on my servos where the movement of the part,i.e. throttle linkage or sterring arms, stops, find that end point percentage, then set it back another 5-7%.that way,you know you are not stressing linkages, servos, and all around moving parts. this has worked for me and in my 20 years of running rc cars, helicopters, and boats have rarely burned out servos

Yeah I did that. Before it looked like all of my linkages were being bent and stressed, cut back the range of motion and its all good now. Much happier now lol

I bought that same Spectrum just because I thought the telemetry was cool ,could not get it work on a 1/5 scale gas and the range was terrible so I sold it and went back to the Fly Sky .you can't beat them for the Price ,there awesome!

+1 on the fly sky i had my MT go two football fields no problem....but it was kinda scary watching go that far and not knowing if its gonna respond to my tx but it did...best $40 i spent....

The spektrum 4ch has twice the range as the 3. Backlit screen and all the goodies that the 3ch has. My LHS has it for 249 with a telemetry reciever, if just the temp works ill be happy. I'm still learning how to relly push these motors, so if I'm too lean ill know without constantly bringing it In to use a temp gun. I'm never going to race so 500 on the Futaba makes no sense. These type of radios are an investment not exclusive to one car, so spending the money is justifiable.

++++ on the fly-sky!! BUT. what you all should know about the rechargable batterys - they all outgas when they are charging. look on the end of them, you will see a vent. Me? i never ever charge batterys in the tx. they gas out the electronics- and-- if there is a internal failure in them while charging. not good. its a good idea to go to rat-shack- aahh- radio shack and buy a battery holder- lay the full battery holder on something that cannot catch fire.- a brick, flat concrete block- paving stone-- play it safe. nothing is 100%. " Murphies Law " Anything that can go wrong will eventually.- Nice spelling huh? lol.

Good luck with the Speky. A lot of folks have glitching issues when using them on the gas vehicles. The remote kill switches don't like them either.
