New starter thingy

I was at a track today and this guy had tak'en off his pull start and rigged up and electric starter from an RC plane to start his XT. He holds the starter in his hand and bam it's running. Is this somthing new or does every do this?

So I would guess that maybe he had a pulley or a belt ridged up from the outside of the fly wheel to start.

Those are nose cone starters, maybe he installed a nose cone in place of the sprawl.

He had the pull start cover off and ran without it. I'm not sure what you gas guys call it. A sprawl? It's on the flywheel and It looks like a socket with the sides cut away for a one way drive setup. one edge straight and the other cut at an angle. Anyway the tip of the starter would engage in the two straight edges to start the motor.

say ol fart- had not seen you post for a while-- was wondering ya know? Forum owner is right- thats more dangerous than a cocked gun. I have read that there are other set ups to start these engines- a socket for the flywheel nut, not a good idea either.
