Hi all I just got into large scale rc from nitro so I pick my self up a used rovan rf5 for £150 any recommendations for this item / need todo. I know i need some fettleing but engine start good drive train is good condition no mark on chassis very dusty fuel tank is sluged up and fuel line are splitting she don't look like she been ran in a while but I thought I would take a risk at £150 for it but she not a looker but for my first 1/5 petrol I don't think i done to bad i know it a rip off of an mcd but for dipping my toe into 1/5 rc not a bad start as i don't relly want to drip like 1.5k on a car at the start

Just make sure you have a Kill Switch installed and the Fail Safe is also set. A good receiver battery is something I would also recommend.
I personally use 2 cell LIFE batteries in the 3000+ mah range. I feel they are a bit safer than LIPO batteries. that's just me though.
Other than that, 1/5 gassers are the best! It's absolutely NOTHING like running a glow/nitro engine.
You tune the engine once and that is it, and the engines are really easy to tune to, compared to glow engines.
Everything is larger, making maintaining the vehicle much easier. (y)
$150 is a steal too!

You stole that for 150.

As long as its running strong you want to basically verify what Jetjoe said. You don't want it to get away from you. I personally prefer lipo batteries for the extra voltage and umph on the brakes and steering but even the LiFe batteries have enough voltage to steer and stop it.

The other thing is cleaning it. I don't know how closely Rovan cloned the mcd chassis thats built on but the engine rides on a separate plate thats easy to pull out so yuou can clean it, and I would clean it. Make sure all of the axle seals are good and clean and that you don't have anything building up on the brakes.
