Hello All,

I am fresh to the 1/5 scene and more importantly petrol. I currently have a 1/8 nitro off roader that I love but wanted to go bigger and something that involves less tuning and something you don't have to worry about temps much.

I purcahsed a XRC2 off ebay and currently waiting for it (should be here within 2 weeks). Its got a 23cc in it.

Anyone heard of this brand before? whats its like? I know its a budget one and don't expect the quality/speed compared to the HPI stuff but is it decent/durable?

I plan to mainly use on gravel and grass which the occasional jump thrown in.

Can I use this thing at the beach or will the fine sand stuff up the servo's?

Mainly id like to know do we have to worry about constatly monitoring the temps? Like you in the nitro scene? Or once its tuned you don't have to worry about it.

I have a DX3S radio and receiver I would like to install on the XRC2, is there any reason why this isnt compatible?

Thanks again

welcome to the forum..

It's not uncommon for them to go over 200 degrees Fahrenheit.. actually at 200 is probably the sweet spot..

Thanks Chris. Do you use a temp gun to check this? My DX3S radio has a telemetry function, tell me temp thanks to a sensor that goes into reciever and also I got rpm/speed sensor I can use as well.

Scary at 1st because of all the worries about temps and over heating with nitros. Once you get wet on 1/5 scale you will be worry free. Setting and forgetting is great!

Agreed. I don't even know what these things sound like. I got a big cyclind dome near my place, its outdoors so anyone can use it, plan to race my mates on the banked corners, big cricket oval in the centre so can tear that up as well. :)

Other than that we have a massive show ground also close, lots of gravel tracks and grassy areas. Thats where ill be spending my weekends from now on! Well during the day anyway.

Here's what they sound like, first is my MCD with a Samba and a 29cc mill.
Second is my Beetle with a big bore 25.5cc and an FG tuned pipe.

The beetle was on its first run so is a bit slow. Its fully broken in now and can wheely on acceleration.

Oh,BTB, I always check the temp of my engine, gears, diff, tyres and ball joints to see if they are not overheating!......................NOT!!!! :clown:

Voo,
That sound is like music to my ears...

I never once checked the temperature, I hated nitros because of that and the needle being so finicky.. You do need to set the needles to stock and run it in a little rich at first, then lean it out a little until you hit the sweetspot. Check your plug for color ("Paperbag brown" is good, white is too lean and black is too rich).. Once you got it all set up you just let it do it's thing..

Even with nitros, the whole temp thing was over used. every motor was different anyway. that said... 2 strokes are so much easier to deal with. even if it's out a bit, so what it's fine. I haven't touched the needles on my semi in forever. motor must be 15 yrs old, 10 at least anyway. starts first or second pull every time

and a dx3s is a sweet radio setup. just get yourself an engine kill swith like a killer bee that runs off the 3rd channel. being able to remote kill the engine is invaluable. runaways with these are scary. and the bee also kills the engine if radio goes dead, rx pack, loss of signal etc. safety first..

Thats awesome, I hope my motors lasts that long, do you use after run oil in it or anything like the nitro's?

I love my DX3S a bit pricey but when running nitro having the ability to see the temp on the radio was awesome. The DX3S has built in failsafe, would this be sufficient?

Thanks ill be sure to check the plug regulary, speaking of plugs whats a good type to use? Should I go for the twin spark or something fancy like that or maybe one of those iridium tipped ones that are in allot of late model vehicles?

Iridium are good but without a tuned engine I doubt you will tell the difference. No need for after run, thats only for the nitro's
Tip........Charge your battery, fill with juice, have fun ! No real arseing around with these.
