Hi,

I am new to 1/5th scale and I really don't know a lot about engines in general so please I know that my questions might be stupid but still please help me out.

I got my Rampage XB about 2 weeks ago and have already made a few modification with the help of a lot of the posts on here. I replaced the servos with Hitech's. I replaced the radio with a Spektrum. I added a KillerBee kill-switch.

Now to my questions:

1) I have run my car through about 3 tanks and when ever I got down to like the last 4th of a tank my idle starts being higher meaning I have to push the breaks for it to not drive away.

2) Ok I will try to explain this issue as best as possible. I think my engine is spitting out some stuff on the left side. The first 2 images highlights the area in red. When the engine is running I can feel air coming from some place there. The third image I am trying to show how my stock pipe is not straight I don't know if that has something to do with it but just wanted to mention it. In the last image I am showing how it looks like after running. You can see the stuff that it spit into the body on that side and also reflected back onto the gas tank.

3) I am looking to buy the HPI Baja wheel adapters in order to use Baja Wheels. I found pretty cheap premounted tires:

Is it a better idea to buy wheel/tires and so on separate or will I be able to reuse the wheels for new tires later on?

4) The last issue I have (probably just for now) is that if I jump it, it always bottoms out. Is there a way to adjust it or replace a part(s) to not make it bottom out any more or does it not matter?

If you need any more help or if you want me to try something I will be happy to try.

Thanks,

Andreas

Grats on the purchase. I will answer the questiosn the best I can.

1: The higher idle is caused by a lean condition. Once your tank gets really low it will allow some air to get into the fuel lines. All cars will do that.

2: It looks like you have a slight exhaust leak. Just retighten the exhaust bolts and if the doesn't cure it get a new exhuast gasket .The air coming off the motor is from the cooling fan/flywheel. Its supposed to do that to cool the engine. It also appears that your gascap is leaking as well. Its probably coming from the vent hole. Do a search and read on how to properly vent the cap so you don't get fuel all over the place :)

3: Pre-mounted tires are a nice option. But I prefer to select my own tires/wheel/s/foams based off of my own personal preference. I like tires and foams from Hostile and rims from either Silverback or Proline. Also the combo you listed is designed for on road use.

4: Increase the shock preload on the springs. If that doesn't work, go to a thicker shock oil. You can also increase the ride height by changing the shock mounting points some.

WOW that was quick!

Thanks for responding right away! I will try re-tightening the exhaust tomorrow night. I was thinking about getting the jetpro pipe anyway.

Also thanks about your tire and wheel tips I will research and probably buy one of those.

Interesting info about the XT/XB differences is there like a conversion kit? Also would I need to change gears for that.

Thanks,

Andreas

Rears all around?

Do you think putting rear Baja wheels all around is a good idea? Do different fronts have any kind of advantage? Is anybody running the sand wheels?

And if somebody is running those because the XB is a 4wd would i run the rear paddles all around or should i still go with these in the front:

One last question for now, does anybody have particular recommendations for regular street tires (tarmac tires)?

Thanks,

Andreas

Fronts vs. Rears

What kind of advantages would you see in the different uses with Fronts vs. Rears? For street (tarmac) racing would you suggest Fronts or Rears? For off road?

I know I am asking a lot of questions but I just want to buy a the best option.

Thanks,

Andreas

All fixed up!

I wanted to thank everybody for all the responses. The screw in the back holding the pipe to the engine was loose. I tightened it up and everything is running better then ever. I will be buying a jetpro pipe soon and of course make the modification to the gas cap so i don't have that issue anymore!

Thanks everybody,

Andreas
