I am thinking of getting into large scale RC I have owned a few HPI savages in my time and a few other Nitro cars, but nothing 2 stroke. I have some questions I can't seem to find answers for and hoping for some help. I wanted to know what kind of speeds you get out of the Rampage trucks stock, how good are they for bashing ( I used to run my Savage SS VERy hard) Pretty much any advise I can get would be great.

WELCOME TO THE SHOW.I STARTED WITH TMAXXs AND SPORTMAXXs BOUGHT A 5T CLONE,THEN MY FIRST RAMP MT PRO LAST YEAR. AS WITH ANY HARD BASHING YOU WILL BREAK STUFF. BUT PARTS ARE PRETTY CHEAP AND ARE AVAILABLE FOR THEM. OUT OF THE BOX THEY ARE GEARED FOR TORQUE MORE THAN SPEED. A SIMPLE GEAR CHANGE ON A STOCK MT WILL GET YOU IN THE 30-40 MPH RANGE. DEPENDING ON YOUR ENG/PIPE MAYBE A LITTLE MORE. NOT QUITE AS FAST AS THE NITROS BUT ALOT OF FUN. ONE HUGE PRO OVER NITROS IS THE COST OF FUEL. THESE TRUCKS WILL RUN ABOUT 40 MINS A TANK. AND ARE VERY EASY TO TUNE. HOPE THAT HELPS, GOOD LUCK

Those all sound like pros, I expect to break things on it lets face it, it's going to happen! Suggestions on what to buy and where to buy it from for the first time I saw a rampage with a trophy truck body and really liked it, but cant find it anywhere. I would like to keep the price round the $700 range depending on motor and radio gear.

Rampagehopups is where I just got mine and Rob carries most of the stock and some aftermarket parts for them. If you get it from Rob you also get a 20% discount on parts for one year I believe. Work out pretty good. I haven't beaten the snot out of the V3 yet. Waiting for the snow to go away. I am impressed with it and it appears that most of the problem areas that were in the V1 and V2 MT that I read about are taken care of in the V3. The truch looks prettty stout. I like to have spare parts on hand so I pick up a lot of items myself. I may still have the spare parts I bought sitting in the box a year from now. The vetrans can fill you in on any extra parts for sure until I get the expereince.

I haven't looked back after going to the 5b gasser setup. SOLD all my Nitro crap off but still have some electric rcs. Gassers are easy to work on. You don't need to replace the engine every few months. Replace a piston ring instead of buying the piston and sleave like a nitro. Tune it once and forget about it. Starts in two pull almost everytime. Cheap to run and spark plugs are half the cost of glow plugs and last 10 time as long. Parts are more expensive but they are tougher then 1/8th scale RC parts. It not like you have to keep buying the same parts over again on the 5th scale. Stock part breaks then upgrade if possible. Same as the rest of the hobby. I think the sound of gassers is considerably less annoying then the nitors. You don't have to keep winding the engine out on these. Takes a while befoer you stock blipping the gas like a nitro but to me it nice and quite. I can't even hear it idling over a block away. Depends on the pipe too.

I favor the sound of a 2 stroke any day over the nitros, I have to wait till I get some xmas money. I look forward to jumping into the gas trucks.

same here. I sold all nitros once i discovered gas. So much easier to use and handle. Only problem i have found with the large scale is that unless you live out of town it becomes harder to have room to play with them.
