Hey everyone. My name is Angel. I'm new here. I recently just got a new Losi 5ive from RCsuperstore (great people!) and was waiting around another few days for an engine upgrade and a radio system. I went with a FlySky FS-GT3B Digital system and a Zenoah 29CC engine from DDM. Okay, so the first thing i do is remove the receiver already on the 5ive, and put in the receiver from the Skyfly. Following instructions carefully, binding and such, i plugged the steering into channel one, and that was working great. Then i plugged in the throttle into channel two, and there it is. Disaster. Smoke came out of the receiver and just stopped working. Did i get a defect? I contacted Hobbypartz but i don't expect to hear from them til monday. Reguardless i'll give them a call anyway, and probably return this radio and receiver. I should of stuck with a Spektrum like i originally planned but... This wasn't worth saving a few dollars for. Any suggestions or why this happened? That'd be great. Thanks.

LOL i can't even take the stock engine off either. I bought this soldering gun (180watt) and it burned out on me so i couldn't even heat up any of the mounting screws. I'm a magnet for disaster i suppose.

Could it be because that receiver isn't meant to be used with giant servos and it overheated it?

No, I run it on everything I own, it was more than likely a bad solder joint on that channel. The other thing you have to be careful with, is getting the polarity correct on the servo plugs: black, red, white is the same as brown, orange, yellow and brown and black are always negative, and red and orange are always positive. There is a vague label on the receiver showing the order. I smoked one once plugging in my 3rd. channel backwards, Doh! The engine mount bolts are extremely tight (and should be) a butane torch or propane if you hold it back a ways, work better at loosening threadlock, than the soldering iron, that takes a minute! Ugh, who has the patience....BTW, I have 1 defective receiver out of the 12 I have purchased, new, so it happens.....that is not including the one my blunder cost me. I have about the same rate of failure with lipos across many brands, so not that unusual. They will ship a receiver right out, I'd encourage you to stick with it, as it has great features and is quite user friendly.

I think he got the new one with the telemetry and the LCD screen I have it but not for the 5. Got the tx and 3 rx's the one that came with the tx had no steering it didn't blow up just didn't work. The others were fine. It's a cool system for the money and the telemetry works good too. I'm a spectrum guy on the 5ive updated to the new system and saw huge range difference. Good luck man

Thank you. I actually ended up getting a Spektrum DX3C that RCmadness sold to me for $70.00 bucks with a 3-channel receiver. Saved me alot of money and i've been happy with it with no issues. Also put on a Superbee Switch which has saved my 5ive twice already. One, too far away, two, Throttle linkage unscrewed off the carburetor. For the Skyfly i did return it and they offered me a full refund. It could of gone better, but i just couldn't trust it anymore after that. :)

I also had one smoke out on me...plugged in the right way, just as said, probably bad solder joint. Luckily it only smoked a $12 rx and not the rest of the set up.
