Hi Guys, My new xt arrives tomorrow. A little excited. Just wondering what is the first thing I need to do before I start the truck. I believe I need to locktight all metal to metal screws. What strenght locktight will I use? I need to charge the batteries, Do I need to add any other fluids such as engin oil, diff oils or grease to any other parts? Anything else?

Regards Alan:confused:

Sorry if this sounds basic but this is my first RC truck.

Blue locktite

2 cycle engines are lubricated by the fuel so no more oil costs :D

Lithium grease on the gears every so often

Charge the battery for about 10 hours (sorry)

make sure EVERY screw is tight!!!!

Have fun with it... they are amazing!!!

+1

Also:

Oil ratio is 25:1 equals 5.12 oz of oil to 1 gallon of fuel.

Install a kill switch. The super bee by Killer RC is awesome. IMO the most important!

+1 on the kill switch, for break in use regular 2 cycle oil not synthetic oil for the first tank. Reason the piston ring will seat faster, synthetic oil will take longer for the break in.After the first tank you can use synthetic oil and your ready to go. Have fun.

your going to love the XT and Welcome to the forum. As a public safety reminder A good kill switch is the single most important purchase for a truck this size

I use blue Loctite. All the stock fluids are fine for the first few tanks, but eventually you're going to have to swap it out. When you do, use some silicone diff fluid for the diffs (Obviously), lube the gears with some white lithium grease and you can use either silicone or petroleum shock fluid. Weights, etc, depend on your driving style and what surface you run on.

Also, welcome.

Thanks for your advice guys. My baby was delivered today. She is so sweet. lol. They say that size is not everything. Inside the package there is a HSB fail safe. No instructions of how to fit. Did a little google search and found it goes inline to the throttle servo line? Is this right? In the manual, which looks as if it covers all redcats, it states that I need toset mty gear mesh. Is this other or dose this apply to 1.5's? With the kill swithch there is a little plastic looking loop thing. Cant find any refference to this in the instructions. :)

Thanking you in anticipation. Alan

ok... the failsafe goes between your battery and on/off switch.

The little thing with the loop is used to bind your controler to the receiver (though it should already been done at the factory).

Your gear mesh should be good, just roll it along the floor and make sure that nothing is binding.

That failsafe is still not good enough compared to a kill switch. I know they are 60 bucks, but they will save you 500 if your servo goes bad. The failsafe can only protect you from a weak battery, the kill switch saves you from all kinds of glitches and problems. I am currently waiting on kill switches for 2 trucks. I have been driving my XT without one but I don't even want to run my MT until one gets here. I have one on my dunerunner and it really does make you feel safer.

Yes the FAILSAFE goes between reciever and throttle servo. And that won't slow the truck down if the servo fails only a killswitch will as it cuts spark to engine. And you don't have to adjust gear mesh as there isn't any for 1/5th scale and believe me it sucks doin for nitros haha and lastly the wire piecce you asked about is your bind plug to bind your radio to your reciever. I googled it and watched a vids on YouTube to bind the redcat rx to tx. Good luck these guys here are here to help! And enjoy that xt she's Awsome.

Thaks guys. Will try to find a Super bee in New Zealand. If not I may have to send to the states.

Regards

Trash the failsafe. It's useless, plus your receiver has a built in failsafe. That loop thing is probably the bind plug. You use it to bind your receiver to your transmitter. It should be linked already, so you don't have to worry about that. But don't lose that plug, you'll need it eventually.

Also, get a kill switch. Protect your investment, dude. The last thing you need is a run away that totals the truck or a bystander.

Here's a vid on the bind process...

The failsafe goes in the trash. LOL . The receiver has one built in. I'm not sure why the include it in the box. A bad servo is the number 1 cause of a runaway. Failsafes can't protect you when the servo goes bad. A kill switch is necessary.
