New to 1/5 scale. I have a fairly new (one gallon)T1000 29cc.

Question: How do you know when your differential needs servicing? What are the indicators?

Thanks for your responses!

Noise is the obvious 1. If you have never had it open I would strip it down & check it out sooner rather than later. There is a lot of stress going through the diff and it will create a lot of heat inside, if its dry it will deteriorate very quickly. Its worth it for piece of mind and will be easier on the wallet!!

one thing to note, the T1000's diff does not come fully filled with lube, get some 1000 wt diff oil get the diff opened up and fill it on up, they barely put enough in there, i added a split metal tranny case to mine and had my diff apart, there was hardly any oil in there, so i filled it up. 1000 is the usual wt, but you can use a heavier weight to make the diff more of a locker for sand running, if you can afford a metal split tranny get one from DDM or Tulare on ebay, and then servicing the diff is tone faster and easier, stock, ya have to almost take all stuff off rerar to get to it, the split tranny has a end plate that only a few screws, and a couple braces removed, then 6 screws in tranny end come off, and diff comes out, makes swapping diff s out with different wts much faster.

I packed my FG diff with LM2 grease so assume it would work with the KM too. Its a cheaper option than rc branded diff oil / grease & works well.

Andy, the Baja diff is a different animal to the FG diff. The baja is a viscous diff and is a sealed unit whereas the FG diff is not water tight and wont hold oil just grease.

nope, ya have to use diff oil designed for it, if you use the regular 90 wt oil it will eat the o rings out. the dif oil for a km baja is a silicone based oil
