Quick question, took the Mcd out yesterday. Used it for about 12mins,handles like a dream but anyways the airfilter came off without me knowing, i think i used it without the airfilter for about 5mins then she turned off thinking it was the fuel. can the engine get messed that quick shes not starting know for some reason :(

Any help ?

I would take the head off and check it mine was destroyed by the filter coming off and grit getting in only takes a few bits to wear the piston and cylinder :(

it can happen in seconds, depending on how dusty/dirty it is, and the running conditions. (ie muddy, wet, dry dusty sand ect...).

for isntance, my neighbor put an oval in his back yard when we first got the bajas.
when the track was near ready to run, he was eager to get out, and forgot he didnt install the air filter assembly (took it off to clean, and didnt re install right away). so he starts it up, lets it warm up for a min or two, then takes off on the oval. gets 1 1/2 laps in and the motor shuts down. FULL of Dirt/Sand. we were pulling probably 15 second laps. so maybe 25 seconds of it.

new head and piston needed .............:w00t:

but not only that you will need to wash out the complete engine

with the filter facing forward it will of made it worse

K....

same thing happend to me the other week at deeside my engine was wrecked but only because its sand at deeside, if you were running on grass it could well be fine, whip the head off and have a look,

Just done a quick check on the car, tbh i don't think the engine is finished. Pulled out the spark plug and its completly dry no fuel what so ever plus the primper bulb is stays half emty.. does this mean the engine is not getting any fuel.

Anyone know the factory settings, then ill start from there..

take the exhaust off and look at the cylinder thru the exhaust port for scarring/scratches.
if it all looks good, it may well be a bad/cracked fuel line ect.. not allowing gas to go thru the carb.

stock needle settings are 1 1/2 out from closed on the High and 1 1/4 out from closed on the low needle.

Just tried to start the mcd :) and im in luck thank god the engine is not finished :P, as it started, but the engine cut off straight pulled it second time it started but was bogging really bad i had to keep the throttle full to keep its started but after that it wasnt starting :( maybe flooded the engine ?

Any advice ?

Look above your last post and follow "T's" idea. No matter starting or not what your piston looks like when peering through the exhaust hole will tell you if your waisting your time trying to adjust it. You may still get it to run but if its gnarled up it will never hold the tune or compression you would like it to.

Thanks mate , I'll take a look today as I'm free. Once I've checked I'll get back to you guys asap :)

If the piston looks fine no scratches etc what could this mean then ? But if it's sratched obv that means one thing . Ahahah

Took the exhasut off today and the piston looks fine i cant see any scratches etc and the piston ring looks ok.

Guys i was running it on dry grass and i had the shell on. The car was dry wasnt dirty etc ? Run time was around 3mins so i must have been using it without an airfilter for around 50secs.

Could this just be a minor problem ?

Depends if you can get it running again mate. If not then its a major problem :cursing:

The good thing is mate i tried starting it yesterday and she fired but wouldnt hold i had to keep the throttle pressed but that could be the tunning right ? then ofter she wouldnt fire maybe becasue i flooded the engine.

You don't say whether youve tried a new plug in it. Sounds like you might have a weak spark if it is trying to fire up. As it ran ok before and there is no obvious sign of damage I would put 1 in & I reckon it will start ok :D Even if the old plug looks ok it could still be knackered.

Thats good news!

Try bringing up the throttle with the throttle screw (Bigone) on the side of the carb until it hold the rpm needed to stay running. Then you can readjust your mixture and lower it once again. When running right most of the time the idle screw will be just lifting the fly open slightly.
